Responsibilities

The Senior Linux Systems Administrator in the Information Technology Enterprise Server Group, works under the general supervision and guidance of the Director, Enterprise Technology and Services, utilizing experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals. The Sr Linux Systems Admin will optimize and automate our processes and systems to improve reliability, scalability, and reduce toil. Participating in systems design, deployment and assume responsibilities, such as monitoring, incident management, lifecycle management and recovery. Ensures effective user support, system performance, change control, data security, data integrity and daily maintenance and administration of the platforms.

Responsibilities will be primarily focused on Linux system administration in a VMware virtualized on-premise and Microsoft Azure cloud environments. Working closely with Connections application development and support teams, combined with our Cloud Reliability Engineers, Platform Engineering, Database Administration, Network Technology and Security teams, to ensure that Connection’s applications are properly functioning and operating efficiently.

Job Duties: 

•Collaborate with and across teams to manage, design, develop, test, implement, and support Linux systems in a virtualized and cloud environment.•Build standard processes and procedures to automate the deployment, troubleshooting, monitoring, and recovery of infrastructure leveraging infrastructure as code practices.•Create and update system architecture and standard operating procedure documentation.•Build tools to monitor systems and automate processes around the core system, application, file migration, data protection and other typical system administration functions.•Architect and execute migration of existing, traditional infrastructure workloads between on-prem data centers. Experience migrating workloads from on-prem to the cloud a plus.•Works with Connection Infrastructure team and Applications team to determine application architecture, upgrade roadmap, planning and execution.•Share your passion for staying on top of tech trends, experimenting with, and learning new technologies, participating in internal and external technology communities, and mentoring other members of the team.•Core contributor to our Architecture Review Board, change management and blameless postmortem processes.•Collaborate with teams and assist in troubleshooting issues across the whole stack – hardware, software, applications, and network.•Capacity planning and performance engineering related projects.•Collaborate with other business functions to bring best of breed product and solution to fruition with automation, reliability, scalability, and observability as core tenets.•Build for resilience. Our goal is not utilize off-hours calls. Participate in a weekly on-call rotation.•Improve our infrastructure capabilities, optimizing for cost, simplicity, and maintainability.

Qualifications

•Expertise with Red Hat Enterprise Linux RHEL and Unbuntu system administration•Experience running high availability Linux systems in a VMware and Microsoft Azure environment.•Proficient at automating systems administration tasks and deployments using tools like shell scripting and Ansible.•Experience with monitoring and alerting technologies like Nagios and Datadog.•Familiarity with Infrastructure as Code concepts and workflows•General familiarity with Data Center workflows•At least 8 years of Linux system administration experience. (primarily RHEL and Unbuntu)•4 years of experience in automating and scripting (Bash, Ansible or comparable languages)•Excellent communication (verbal and written) / presentation skills.•Proficient in creating architectural and data flow diagrams, design runbooks and standard operating procedure documentation.•Ability to collaborate with a variety of personalities and skill sets while improving the quality of IS processes, services, and products.•Self-motivated with a strong aptitude and desire to learn.•Strong customer orientation with ability to interact with personnel at all levels of the organization to obtain, analyze, and discuss business requirements and technical solutions.•Ability to identify, clarify and resolve transactional data issues and risks as needed.
