What are the responsibilities and job description for the Community Volunteer Ambassador – First Ladies National Historic Site position at Conservation Legacy?
Position Details:
Stewards Individual Placements, a program of Conservation Legacy, provides individuals with service and career opportunities to strengthen communities and preserve our natural resources. The Community Volunteer Ambassador (CVA) Program combines the strength of a national leader in conservation service with the National Park Service to train a diverse group of emerging leaders to assist park units in building lasting connections to communities.
The CVA’s position is designed to work closely with their supervisor and will be expected to be a contributing member of our volunteer management team. The CVA will work collaboratively with park staff and partners and will work closely with the volunteer coordinator and volunteer supervisor in planning how the park can best use volunteers and help the program continue to grow both in size and in presence. Weekly meetings are held amongst the IEVS staff to access the weeks schedule of events, facilitate conversation and collaboration about projects, and to provide new interpretive training opportunities amongst the division. These are in addition to all NPS Staff meetings and digital communication opportunities.
If the CVA desires, they will have the option to work together with NPS staff and volunteers in learning the operations of the Education Center as well as interpretation principles and how they are applied to the Saxton House Tours. This would serve solely as a professional development opportunity for the CVA to see what the experience is like for visitors to the site, to get a taste for the different types of divisional work within the NPS, and can provide the opportunity for feedback and a new perspective to NPS staff and volunteers based on the CVA’s work with the community. The same could also be applied to other divisions such as Maintenance if there is an interest on the CVA’s part.
