Position Summary
CCM is seeking an Intermodal Chassis Inspector who possesses good problem-solving skills, basic mechanical aptitude, and good working knowledge of Microsoft office suite. The Intermodal Chassis Inspector must have the ability to work in a fast-paced environment. Intermodal Chassis Inspector will work with terminal staff and repair vendors to ensure equipment is safe, well maintained, and in full compliance with FMCSA regulations and CCM policies. The inspector works on-site at intermodal and/or marine terminals and depots, where the use of personal protective equipment is required.
Responsibilities
- Perform quality control inspections of chassis
- Audit repair vendors at area rail depots and other locations for compliance and to ensure consistency and productivity
- Scrutinize repair estimates to focus on cost reductions, and identify deviations from quality standards, tariff times, and parts pricing
- Assess and submit terminal claims for chassis damages and follow-up to ensure claims are rebilled to the appropriate third-party
- Interact with logistics department in equipment repositioning and support adequate inventory levels
- Oversee and manage tires and other corporate programs, including marking of tires, validating replacement needs and handling warranty issues
- Review and approve/reject repair job orders to ensure vendor work priorities and repair volumes are managed
- Maintain daily and/or weekly vendor productivity reports
- Oversee on and off-hire surveys of chassis
- Ensure vendors respond to DVIR and DVER reports in a timely manner, correcting all deficiencies
- Using digital technology and handheld device to perform quality control inspections of chassis
- Promote CCM’s core values and interoperability models to customers and stakeholders
- Special Projects as assigned.
Requirements
- Experience with intermodal chassis maintenance or mechanical background is a plus
- IICL Chassis Inspector Certification is preferred; if not certified, the candidate will be trained to pass the IICL Certification exam
- Must be able to obtain ERailSafe, TWIC, and ISN badge credentials
- Must have a valid driver’s license, possess and maintain a satisfactory driving record
- Must be able to pass a pre-employment 5-panel drug screen
- Willingness to submit to a national criminal background check
- Must be able to perform “walk-around” inspection of chassis, as well as using a crawler to check brakes and axles
- Must be able to lift/roll heavy objects including truck tires
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Excel, Word, and Outlook
- Excellent attention to detail
- Must be able to multi-task and work independently as well as contribute to the overall success of the team
- Comply with OSHA regulations and location safety policies and procedures
