JOB OPPORTUNITY- Regional Safety Manager
Responsibilities
Immediate full-time position is available to a qualified Safety Manager ready to work for a leading Above Ground Tank Manufacturer and Repair Contractor. The primary responsibility is to provide construction safety management support to project managers and support staff during the bidding, planning, engineering, and construction of various types of projects, including tank repairs and construction. This includes developing safe work plans as well as conducting periodic audits of shop and field safety performance to identify and correct activities that have not been risk-assessed or are not being performed according to plan. Some overnight travel will be required.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Perform and document risk assessments for projects and construction activities.
- Identify safety control measures that manage risk to an acceptable level, including engineering and administrative controls as well as PPE selection.
- Audit safety performance in the shop and in the field according to company safety policies, customer requirements, and safe work plans. Capture findings and perform trending to identify areas for improvement for management. Provide feedback and mentor crews and new hires. (SSE)
- Act as an internal consultant to project management for site construction safety-related issues or concerns.
- Assist in promptly responding to information requests from clients, contractors, and/or regulators.
- Coordinate hazard identification and resolution between project participants.
- Perform HR functions as needed regarding insurance, injuries, and reporting.
- Participate in (and sometimes lead) accident/incident investigations, identifying causal factors and their corrective actions in a report.
- Review and provide feedback on proposed corrective actions. Follow up on corrective action effectiveness. Address issues with workers including retraining and written corrective actions.
- Help maintain and inventory safety equipment.
- Help evaluate the need and assist in obtaining required safety equipment, as necessary.
- Provide formal safety training in the classroom as well as informal safety training and consultation with employees in the shop and in the field. Submit safety training and compliance documents to customer/auditor platforms to remain in good standing. (Ex. ISN, Veriforce)
Qualifications
This position requires someone who has a BA in Occupational Safety & Health or Engineering/Construction Management degree or 10 years of equivalent experience in Construction safety or General Industry safety management and is OSHA-30 and OSHA-500 qualified. Human Resources and Compliance experience are helpful.
To qualify, you must have the following skills and experience:
- 10 or more years of applicable management experience in the General Industry or Construction environment.
- Experience with OSHA regulations and the implementation of those regulations.
- Ability to evaluate the effectiveness of safety program implementation.
- Willingness to work in an office environment or at a project site location.
- Excellent verbal/written communication skills. Solid interpersonal skills and ability to work with and guide others in potentially adversarial situations.
