Role Overview

As the Grocery Support Operations - Project Manager, you will be instrumental in leading our facility service teams, ensuring the seamless operation of a US military commissary. This role requires a blend of leadership, project management capabilities, hands-on team support, and a deep understanding of commissary operations, standards, and requirements. Your responsibilities include managing daily operations, project execution, resource allocation, and adherence to timelines, budgets, and quality standards. This is not a “desk job”, so you’ll be expected to take a proactive and hands-on role in supporting your team and driving them to successfully complete all daily objectives.

Key Responsibilities:

-Operational Leadership: Direct daily service operations with a focus on planning, scheduling, and resource management. Align activities with protocols, quality standards, and production goals, ensuring operational excellence and meeting federal contract objectives.

-Team Supervision and Development: Oversee and support a diverse on-site workforce performing custodial, shelf stocking, and warehousing activities, operating across varied shifts and schedules. Responsible for maintaining accurate employee time and attendance records, coordinating comprehensive training and safety programs, and managing employee performance to ensure high standards of productivity and efficiency. Provide effective training, motivation, mentorship, and constructive feedback to all staff. Foster a collaborative and high-performance team environment to enhance team dynamics and productivity. Step-in to assist the team as needed with their manual tasks and responsibilities. Propose and implement innovative ideas to enhance productivity within the facility, optimizing operational efficiency.

-Customer Satisfaction: Commit to exceptionally high levels of customer satisfaction by delivering superior service. Uphold the commissary’s commitment to providing a positive experience that aligns with the mission for every commissary patron.

-Stakeholder Communication: Serve as the primary liaison for all operational communications with internal teams, external partners, and government stakeholders. Maintain strong, effective relationships with commissary management to support project objectives and operational success.

-Compliance and Quality Assurance: Ensure strict adherence to federal regulations, store directives, and organizational policies. Maintain consistent, accountable work environments and uphold high service quality standards.

-Project and Risk Management: Manage special projects and initiatives and conduct risk assessments and implement strategies to efficiently meet objectives. Address and resolve issues arising from staff or government entities, including complaints and grievances, through effective conflict resolution. Proactively escalate issues and seek support from the company’s Regional Director and corporate support teams, as needed.

-Reporting and Accountability: Compile and submit daily operational data that is verified and complete. Ensure the facility’s condition adheres to the federal contract's quality control standards on a daily basis, creating an inviting shopping environment.

-Safety and Professional Conduct: Promote a safe workplace by adhering to security protocols and safety standards. Be an exemplary figure of professionalism and dedication, exemplifying high-performance standards and fostering a positive work environment.

-Flexibility and Stress Management: Ability to work a flexible schedule to meet business needs, including overnight shifts, evenings, or weekends. Prepare to work in high-stress situations, demonstrating calm and effective problem-solving skills.

-Collaborative Environment and Project Management Duties: Collaborate closely with internal teams, including stocking, custodial, warehouse, and management staff. Perform additional project management duties as needed, including scheduling, administrative tasks, and participating in management meetings to ensure the successful operation of the facility. Delegate tasks to Assistant Project Managers and provide close supervision to ensure efficient performance of the team’s core responsibilities for every shift.

-Additional Duties: Assume other responsibilities as assigned by the Regional Director or as operational needs evolve.

Qualifications:

- Hands-on Leadership: Ability to manage and support team members with regular tasks and work responsibilities, with a “lead from behind” mindset.

- Experience: At least 1 year in a supervisory/management role, preferably within military/government contracting, warehousing and logistics, or retail environments.

- Education: High school diploma or GED required; Bachelor's or Associate's degree in Project Management, Business Administration, or related field preferred; significant experience in commissary support, grocery, or retail management also considered.

- Skills: Demonstrated leadership ability, strong organizational and communication skills, familiarity with data management tools, and commitment to excellence; ability to operate and be certified in all warehouse equipment

Physical Requirements:

- Lift, push, pull, carry, and handle commissary products weighing up to 40 pounds

unassisted and occasionally over 40 pounds with assistance.

- Stand, stoop, kneel, bend, and climb for prolonged periods.

 

Preferred Skills:

- Experience in retail or supply chain management.

- In-depth knowledge of military commissary operations and federal contractor processes.

- Exceptional problem-solving and analytical capabilities.
