We are looking for:

A Journeyman Substation Metropolitan Repair Worker. This person will provide Maintenance of Electric Transmission and Distribution systems as well as facilities and ancillary support process for all utility operations. Duties and who these individual reports will fluctuate between projects. Individual must possess the skills to lead, problem solve, and work well in a team environment. Individual should exemplify safe work practices and follow the company’s compliance standards

  • High school diploma / GED is required.
  • Must have all the qualifications of a Substation Utility Worker and, in addition:
  • Must successfully complete the Substation/Metropolitan Repair Worker assessment
  • Must be able to obtain asbestos abatement certification as required
  • Must be able to complete a pre-employment assessment at our training facility
  • Must be a Journeyman Substation Electrician/Mechanic including previously completing an employer-sponsored training program
  • Must have or be able to obtain a commercial driver’s license

This position is included under a collective bargaining agreement with the Utility Workers Union of America.


In this role, you will:

Under general supervision, performs tasks in the maintenance and construction of energized metropolitan underground systems, electric substation, electric transmission, and distribution systems and able to direct two equal or lower rated employees in the same or below classification in performing such duties as:

  • Installing, removing, inspecting, maintaining, and repairing substation and metro type underground equipment such as cables, splices, potheads, wires, buses, fuses, switches, circuit breakers, regulators, junction boxes, lightning arrestors, transformers, motors, temporary equipment and supporting structures
  • Performing and interpreting tests such as travel recording, power factor tests, high voltage tests, and other computerized equipment tests and responsible for reporting and analyzing test results as required
  • Preparing switching orders, carrying out switching orders, placing, and removing protective tags, giving, or taking clearance while performing maintenance work on metropolitan and distribution substation equipment
  • Operate heavy equipment such as mobile cranes, JLGs, aerial lift devices, skid steers, forklifts, and other types of construction equipment
  • Obtaining clearance and applying personnel protective grounds to establish safe work zone
  • Performing other similar or related work.

Hours and Travel:

  • This position requires the individual work a minimum of 40 hours per week with most of the time spent in specific field locations. Travel is required to job sites.
  • Individuals need to be willing to work additional hours as necessary to meet deadlines or assist with outage restoration activities.
  • Individual should be willing to participate in the on-call rotation in case of outage related activities.
  • Individual may have to work outside of assigned headquarters to help with storm restoration or project work which may require overnight stays.

  • The employee frequently is required to talk or hear.
  • The employee must frequently lift and move up to fifty pounds and occasionally lift and move up to seventy-five pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud.
  • Individual must have the ability to work up to 16 continuous hours during outage restoration efforts.
