Join our Legal Department in the role of Corporate Counsel.

 

We are looking for a motivated attorney with experience in consumer finance and corporate law to serve as a key part of CFC’s Legal Department. The successful candidate will work with the Senior Corporate Counsel and General Counsel while coordinating with other senior leadership to accomplish our company objectives.


***CFC offers a hybrid work schedule which includes three (3) core days in the office (Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday) and two (2) remote workdays (Monday and Friday)***


Essential Functions

  • Develop a mastery of the company’s business processes and systems and provide counsel to the company stakeholders on legal requirements related to consumer lending and applicable consumer protection laws. 
  • Review, negotiate, and advise stakeholders on contract terms and update them to fit legal and business needs, including enterprise technology transaction documents, such as SaaS subscription agreements, and software licenses with technology vendors.
  • Maintain familiarity with regulatory requirements for third-party service providers to regulated financial institutions and have experience in financial technology and associated regulations. 
  • Work with cross-functional groups to understand and interpret business requirements and develop contract strategies into legal terms and conditions. 
  • Ensure consistency of contract terms to ensure compliance with regulatory changes to new and existing contracts and company policies and goals. 
  • Protect and mitigate company risks that may arise from contractual commitments.
  • Coordinate reviews with Senior Corporate Counsel to ensure that litigation case and contract management timelines are achieved, including renewals, amendments, and change orders by leveraging reporting to track and manage litigation and contracts within the contract management database.
  • Support as needed on research, draft, and review of legal documents including correspondence with legal counsel, subpoenas, and complaint responses. 
  • Develop a deep understanding of applicable federal and state laws related to the collection and servicing of consumer loan Conduct comprehensive research and analysis and synthesize such information into a clear interpretation of local, state, and federal laws and regulations.
  • Review and monitor new and updated consumer regulations and communicate relevant changes to the Legal Department in a digestible format for distribution to stakeholders. 
  • Partner with other legal professionals to provide specialized, innovative, joint guidance involving new and existing business ventures. 
  • Manage and execute projects and other deliverables as assigned by Legal Team leadership. 
  • Other duties as assigned. 

 

The ideal candidate will have the following:

  • J.D. degree from ABA accredited law school is required.
  • Admitted to a state bar and in good standing.
  • Minimum 3-5 years prior experience in reviewing, drafting, and negotiating the contract lifecycle. 
  • Prior experience in interpreting and counseling clients regarding the following laws and regulations: TILA/Reg. Z, GLBA/Reg. P, FCRA/Reg. V, FDCPA, ECOA/Reg. B, CAN- SPAM, TCPA, Bankruptcy Code, and other laws affecting payments products, and consumer credit poducts. 
  • Ability to handle conflicting time demands and focus on task completion with little direction or need for supervisory follow-up.
  • Excellent legal drafting, writing, and verbal communication skills. 
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
  • Ability to be detail-oriented, responsive, and flexible. 
  • Knowledge of legal principles, legal research techniques, legal terminology, and government regulations. 
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality in a professional manner.
