Characteristics of the Position
General Overview
The Multimedia Coordinator, in consultation with executive staff, is responsible for the conception, creation and distribution of multimedia content. Utilizing formats that may include video and audio presentations of various lengths, the Multimedia Coordinator creates effective content that facilitates the Office’s communication regarding specific issues, programs and operations with both the general public and specific audiences.
Key Responsibilities and Duties
Collaborates with executive and department staff on communication needs and strategies and identifies creative ways to utilize multimedia formats to address those needs.
Creates multimedia content through the execution of all phases of production, including research, reporting, interviewing, filming/recording, editing and placement on various multimedia channels.
Brings forth ideas to improve communication between the Sheriff’s Office and the general public or specific audiences.
Works with a wide range of subjects to create multimedia content, including program participants, external stakeholders, and department staff.
Develops, researches, and responds to external requests for information.
Monitors both traditional media and new media for coverage of the Sheriff’s Office and issues related to the Sheriff’s Office.
Assists in developing communication priorities for the Sheriff’s Office.
Establishes and develops relationships with the press and media to further communications regarding the Sheriff’s Office.
Identifies media opportunities for the Sheriff’s Office, as directed.
In coordination with the other staff, research, draft, discuss, implement and enforce the Sheriff’s policies and procedures.
Additional duties as directed.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Proficient skill in utilizing digital and multimedia production tools, including video and audio equipment, lighting, and related editing software.
A demonstrated ability to produce multimedia content for a variety of audiences in a variety of formats.
Skill in graphic design in the creation of digital media content.
Knowledge of online communication strategies and tactics, latest web technologies and best practices.
Superior writing and editing skills.
Project management skills and the ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines with a focus on results.
Strategic planning and analytical skills and ability to understand the Sheriff’s Office organization and adapt the communications strategy accordingly.
Must be creative and innovative as well as a self-starter.
Knowledge of online media and social media.
Skill in planning, developing, and completing complex assignments with minimal direction.
Accurate judgment in making decisions, reorganizing established precedents, and addressing new problems.
Thorough working knowledge of – or ability to quickly and effectively grasp and utilize – the policies, protocols, systems, procedures, and technical vernacular of the agency, department and County, as they are applicable to assigned duties and responsibilities.
Ability to effectively participate in staff meetings or other forums aimed at developing constructive ideas, observations, and insights.
A high level of accuracy and proficiency in the use of computers, word processing, PC software, and other computerized programs to manage and generate information, reports, letters, etc. may be required. Knowledge of video and photo production and editing is a plus.
Skill in interacting with others to investigate, gather and review confidential materials, information, and incidents of record.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree in communications, digital media, film production, videography, public relations, or related field.
Minimum of (3) years working in public relations, communications, film production, digital media or a related field.
Advanced proficiency in contemporary digital media tools (video and audio) and related editing software.
Advanced proficiency Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint skills.
Advanced proficiency in current video and audio editing software.
Proficiency with communications technology systems, including web applications.
Ability to interact with all levels of the organization with confidence. Adept and comfortable at influencing the decision-making process.
Ability to work under pressure, with short timelines, and the ability to handle multiple projects with shifting deadlines.
Exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail.
Effective oral and written communication.
Ability to work with diverse groups to achieve consensus.
Preferred Qualifications
A Graduate degree in communications, digital media, film production, videography, public relations, or related field.
Experience in creating documentary-style digital media content.
At least five (5) years working in public relations, communications, film production, digital media or a related field.
