What are the responsibilities and job description for the Geneticist position at Cooks Venture?

Cooks Venture is seeking a Geneticist to join us in our mission to change the world through food! In this role, you will:
· Lead and participate in the physical evaluation and selection of breeding stock
· Design, execute, and analyze results from experiments to evaluate feed efficiency
· Oversee the management of all breeding stock, including regular inspections of housing, assessments of living conditions, and implementation of changes as needed.
· Develop and implement methodology for genetic evaluation of complex traits, including developing workflows to handle, analyze, visualize and generate reports on large datasets.
· Competence in analysis of large phenotypic data, preferably including
familiarity with methods of variance components and breeding value estimation.
· Lead the implementation of statistical methodology including the integration of
genomic and phenotypic information and the development of selection indices as part of a comprehensive genetic evaluation system
· Liaise and collaborate with all staff involved with the hatchery, breeding, and husbandry of Cooks Venture poultry stocks
· Other projects, tasks, and responsibilities as assigned by leadership
Other Qualifications:
· M.S. or Ph.D. in animal or plant breeding, Computational/Quantitative Genetics, or related field with emphasis on quantitative genetics or animal breeding
· 3 years of research and genetic data analysis experience with strong training in statistics is required
· High degree of communication and research skills both verbal and written
· High level of computer literacy, especially Microsoft Office
· Preference for practical poultry experience
The successful candidate will be expected to have a to-do attitude along with a team-working
spirit and a willingness to learn all aspects of breeding program, and also be able to work under pressure and perform to very tight deadlines when required, with the ability to adapt and
develop using transferable and inter-disciplinary skills.
