What are the responsibilities and job description for the Traveling Electrical Controls Commissioning Technician position at Cooper Controls?
Responsibilities:
- Design, programming, testing and start-up of PLC-based automation systems.
- Design, write, implement, test and document PLC/HMI control software and structure.
- Develop User Requirement Specifications.
- Assist with estimates of man-hours required to complete projects.
- Manage automation projects as assigned.
- Limited travel to oversee commissioning of new customer equipment.
- Train operators and engineers on control software.
- Work closely with project managers, electrical and mechanical engineers, as well as production personnel to debug systems and ensure system operation meets requirements.
- Development of Human Machine Interfaces (multiple platforms)
- Provide customer technical support and troubleshooting of control systems.
- Development of Functional Requirement Specifications, as well as General and Detailed Design Specifications for control systems.
- Create written documentation for application maintenance and configuration. Assist in creating user manuals and required documentation.
- Understanding of industrial communication protocols and interfaces such as Modbus, Ethernet/IP, TCP/IP.
Additional Responsibilities:
· Always look for new and better ways to streamline the cost and performance of projects, capture information, and make overall improvements as learning takes place.
· Travel as necessary to perform position description duties. Expect 50% travel for periods of 1 to 3 weeks and occasionally up to 4 weeks at one time, based on project workload.
Qualifications:
Experience:
- 5 years' experience programming PLC/HMI.
- Preferred experience with Allen Bradley and GE Fanuc hardware/software
- Ability to work with electrical meters and hand and power tools.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Strong computer skills, including proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, AutoCAD
