- Determines Capital Equipment requirements, prepares Auto Quotations for new model programs and tracks the construction and delivery of new tools from supplier, thru testing, and delivered to a production state.
- Identifies and pursues potential enhancements in mold tooling and presses that would result in cost savings, quality, safety and ergonomic improvements. Involved with machine equipment floor layouts.
- Troubleshoots existing mold tooling and mold equipment and either performs the necessary corrective action or coordinates the modification with the Die Shop, Maintenance or outside vendors.
- Follows special performance testing of molded details as necessary to ensure conformance to customer specifications.
- Performs stock evaluations required to produce acceptable quality molded details and reports findings. Responsible for calculating and reporting defective information on a regular basis.
- Inspects and verifies product development mold tooling and processes to ensure that they meet all specifications and standards upon turn over to Process Mold Engineer. Maintains record of mold tooling maintenance costs.
- Manages Cooper Standard Tool and Die Standards for both advancement of equipment as well as alignment of suppliers.
- Coordinates with Production and Scheduling the out-of-plant repair or alteration of mold tooling so that production requirements are not jeopardized.
- Creates and updates, in a timely manner, timelines and open issue lists for the Process Mold Dept.
- Routinely familiarizes and apprises oneself as to technological advancements in molding designs, mold press designs and capabilities and pursues those advancements which would contribute to the efficient operation of the manufacturing process.
- Analyzes mold capacities and percent utilization to achieve optimum equipment usage.
- Maintains accurate specifications and SAPs for mold tooling and equipment.
- Utilizes root cause analysis, problem resolution and continuous improvement techniques. Writes comprehensive reports summarizing activities and improvements.
- Tracks wear and repair of all customer-owned mold tooling. Maintains an inventory of all customer tooling.
- Directly manages and works with mold maintenance staff.
- Follows ITAF Quality procedures, ISO14001 Procedures, and ISO45001 Safety Standards.
- Manages daily duties of Tool Room Maintenance. Regularly provides performance appraisals of technicians to Engineering Manager, according to company established guidelines.
- May, on occasion, be required to perform duties other than those specified in this description. Performs other related duties.
- Bachelor’s degree in an Engineering Discipline with four years of process engineering experience, or equivalent combination of less education and more related process engineering experience of five to seven years of Plastic Injection manufacturing preferred.
- Ability to focus and lead multi-disciplinary task teams and have previous experience in supervision in manufacturing.
- Excellent knowledge of manufacturing parts and processes.
- Excellent knowledge of injection molding and injection mold tooling.
- Will interact with all levels of management and must be able to communicate effectively.
- Willingness and ability to travel as necessary.
- Preferred in office position but willing to discuss 60% remote
- Professional Office Environment
- Must wear proper personal protection equipment while on manufacturing floor
- Travel to manufacturing facilities or customer locations when required.
- Equipment used requires proper training on the potential for an avoidance of injury.
