What are the responsibilities and job description for the Loan Officer position at Cooperative Federal?
Cooperative Federal is a unique combination of a traditional credit union and a non-profit community development organization. We operate four community-based offices in the city of Syracuse, NY and three high-school branches. The following essential responsibilities are driven by our mission: to serve those underserved by conventional financial institutions, to manage our members’ assets responsibly, and rebuild the local economy in ways that foster justice:
GENERAL SCOPE OF ROLE:
Plan, organize, and implement lending activities pertaining to origination, underwriting, and closing of loans; perform related work as required.
Essential Functions:
1. Conduct loan interviews and counsel loan applicants.
2. Complete loan papers and disburse funds on approved applications.
3. Obtain credit reports according to established policies and procedures.
4. Monitor all loans for lien filing perfection and proper collateral insurance coverage.
5. Submit required information for Collateral Protection Insurance when needed.
6. Check all loans processed weekly for the Loan Committee report.
7. Meet with the Loan Committee as required.
8. May contact borrowers who are behind on payments, to determine the reasons for delinquency and assist them in developing plans to bring accounts to a current status
9. Ensure compliance with credit union policies and procedures and with regulatory requirements. Adhere to high standards of confidentiality and honesty.
10. Perform liaison functions between departments to ensure efficient service.
11. Handle routine correspondence.
12. Maintain a working knowledge of the Credit Union’s data processing system.
13. Actively participate in consumer education/outreach activities including workshops, community events, and other sponsored initiatives; evening and weekend hours may be required.

Knowledge Requirements
- Ability to maintain cooperative working relationships with a variety of diverse members, staff, and officials; to embrace the mission of serving the underserved.
- Thorough working knowledge of the lending process from application to closing.
- Ability to plan and organize workload; strong attention to detail is required.
- Ability to be creative and take risks.

The Loan Officer is often required to sit, to stand, to walk, conduct phone interviews and to use their hands and fingers. The employee is occasionally required to lift up to 25 lbs.

Pay: $40,000.00 - $50,000.00 per year
