Position Title: Endoscopy Reprocessing Technician Department: Endoscopy

Schedule: Monday - Thursday, 9:30 am - 6:00 pm, additional hours may be available
JOB SUMMARY
The Endoscopy Reprocessing Technician is responsible for cleaning equipment used for Endoscopy procedures according to specified guidelines and procedures. The position may also assist in providing safe, quality patient care in the
Endoscopy areas as assigned.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Manually cleans, reprocesses, and dries endoscopes and endoscopic equipment.
- Operates High Level Disinfection (HLD) endoscope washers and endoscope drying cabinets.
- Provides proper instrument and equipment care and handling including cleaning, reprocessing, testing, troubleshooting, use and storage.
- Recognizes and reports equipment damage or malfunction immediately for appropriate action to be taken.
- Upholds cleanliness standards by performing tasks such as emptying trash/linen, general cleaning, and strict adherence to infection control protocols
- Wears appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) for tasks which may include gown, gloves, mask, and protective eyewear.
- Prevents cross-contamination by strictly maintaining and separating clean and dirty areas.
- Adheres to and assists in review and/or development of policies and procedures related to job responsibilities
- Maintains required professional certificates (BLS) and attends and participates in continuing education programs, communication groups and staff meetings.
- Acts as a preceptor and mentor to new or cross-trained staff members.
- Adheres to all Center policies regarding confidentiality of patient information including HIPAA guidelines, patient care and quality standards.
- Demonstrates the ability to float / cross train to other clinical positions as needed.
- Complies with cost containment practices by utilizing resources, caring for equipment, managing inventory and working efficiently as a team.
- Participates in quality assurance monitoring including infection prevention practices and timeouts.
- Observes all safety precautions and participates in processes meeting or exceeding regulatory and accreditation guidelines.
- Complies with health and safety rules and procedures at the Center.
- Maintains effective, respectful and professional communication between staff members, anesthesia providers, physicians and additional healthcare partners.
- Performs all other duties assigned by Team Leader.
SKILLS and REQUIREMENTS
- Strong attention to detail and ability to follow procedures.
- Ability to work at a fast pace consistently throughout shift.
- Interpersonal skills to work positively with patients, families, physicians and professional peers.
- Has knowledge of and follows Universal Precautions and OSHA guidelines.
- Basic computer skills; including use for trainings, email, timecards, occurrence reporting, etc.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Regularly required to use hands to control or feel objects, grasp, move or assemble objects.
- The employee is frequently required to reach with hands and arms.
- The employee is frequently required to stand; sit, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, bend, twist, squat or crawl.
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
- Ability to talk or hear; read, write, understand and carry out directions
- May serve in patient care including patient movement or lifting. Standing, bending, stooping, crouching, kneeling and ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
Based on OSHA guidelines for exposure determination, this position falls within Category A – occupations that require procedures or other occupation related tasks that involve exposure or reasonably expected exposure to blood or other potentially infectious materials.
