Job Summary
The primary function of the Apprentice is to follow the direction of the Lead Plumber and/or Project Superintendent and follow COPPERA's Apprentice Program to become a licensed plumber.
EDUCATION
Required: High school diploma or equivalent.
Preferred: Plumbing related trade school
LICENSING/REGISTRATION/CERTIFICATION
Required: Apprentice License
Preferred: Tradesman License
EXPERIENCE
Required: N/A
Preferred: Experience in construction specializing in the Plumbing trade.
REPRESENTATIVE SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, AND ABILITIES
- Must be skilled at initiating, building, and maintaining healthy relationships with co-workers while keeping the overall goals of the company in mind.
- The ability to identify, understand, and meet the needs of the projects he/she is working on.
- The ability to follow task given by Field Superintendent or Project Lead and perform functions in a timely manner.
- The ability to work in a collaborative manner directly with the field team on various projects.
- The ability to begin to read and understand industry/trade information such as drawings.
- The ability to quickly take action on direction given by Field Lead.
- The ability to correctly perform routine business mathematical calculations (add, subtract, multiply, divide, fractions, decimals, ratios, etc.).
- Become proficient in the use and application of information technology. This includes general application software systems (i.e. MS Word and Excel), industry specific software systems (i.e. ProContractor), and cloud-based applications (i.e. Smartsheet).
PHYSICAL
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by the Apprentice to successfully perform the essential functions of this position.
- MOBILITY: The Apprentice must have sufficient mobility to access all areas of the company shop and offices without assistance. Similarly, the Apprentice I must have sufficient mobility to travel to job site.
- STRENGTH: Lifting is a routine function of this position; Apprentice should be able to lift large items safely with a crew or co-worker.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Following are representative of the primary responsibilities of the Apprentice and are described in more detail in the company’s Standard Operating Procedures for Project Execution:
- Plumbing/Field Work
Main Activities:
- Removes obstructions from drains including faucet, commode and urinal drains.
- Cleans/organizes tools, materials and equipment.
- Runs errands, carries and delivers materials, tools, and equipment.
- Maintains a clean and safe work environment.
- Operates vehicles if applicable
- Test and inspects existing plumbing systems for defects or areas of improvement.
- Performs basic installation, maintenance and repair of plumbing systems and fixtures.
- Reviews, interprets, and follows architectural drawings/blueprints, schematics, specifications and other technical documents related to the installation, maintenance, repair and removal of plumbing equipment and systems.
- Examines, troubleshoots, detects and diagnoses defective plumbing equipment, hardware or materials.
- Develops plans to repair and/or replace defective plumbing equipment, hardware or materials, obtains approval and proceeds with work.
- Constructs and/or assembles various types of plumbing equipment.
- Performs independent work installing, maintaining and repairing plumbing systems.
- Record Management
Main Activities:
- Turn in lost time reports on a daily basis
- Report to lead plumber or foreman on a daily basis to communicate daily activities
- Technology & Equipment
Main Activities:
- Learn and use company software
- Correspond with company employees and company customers through email and phone
- Keep company vehicle clean and in good condition via maintenance
- Relationships/Communication
- Present self in a professional manor
- Build relationships with customers while on the job
- Communicate effectively with Project Manager and Company Manger to ensure all jobs are managed and performed efficiently
- Be available via phone or email as needed
- Attend company meetings as scheduled
- Perform Other Related Duties as Assigned
Following are additional Apprentice responsibilities that do not apply directly to individual projects:
- Responsible for adherence to all company policies and procedures with particular emphasis on the Standard Operating Procedures for Project execution.
- Responsible for performing Apprentice duties on multiple projects simultaneously. The number of simultaneous projects will vary depending on the complexity and size of the individual projects.
- Responsible for establishing and maintaining an effective and positive relationship with customers at all times.
- Responsible for assuring the safety of all construction personnel (employees and sub-contractors) as well as anyone that may be in or near the job site. This includes, but is not limited to:
- Assuring strict adherence to all safety procedures and rules established for the company and/or required by OSHA regulations.
- Assuring that all aspects of the company safety program are in place and followed. This includes, but not limited to, weekly job site safety meetings.
- Assuring that injury occurrences are at the lowest possible level and do not exceed established goal levels.
- Responsible for compliance to all pertinent plumbing codes on all projects.
- Responsible for compliance to all environmental regulations imposed by governmental agencies (i.e. EPA) at all job sites.
- Responsible for protecting the assets of the company and making prudent decisions to mitigate any and all risks that threaten the assets; this includes, but is not limited to the security of all company equipment, vehicles, tools, and materials both at all job sites and at the company’s office/warehouse.
- Responsible for presenting a positive and professional image for the company in all dealings with customers, vendors, employees, and the community. Maintains a well-groomed, professional appearance appropriate for the position and business environment.
- Responsible for performing all duties in a manner that is personally cooperative and supportive of all other members of the Coppera, LLC organization.
- When necessary, the Apprentice may assist in the performance of duties normally performed by other positions. Although this is not a routine part of the position, the Apprentice must perform these duties professionally and with strict adherence to the same procedures and guidelines that the other employees are required to follow.
- All other duties and tasks as may be necessary to achieve company goals and objectives or as may be directed from time to time by company Operations Manager.

Pay: $15.00 - $25.00 per hour
