    WAGE/HOUR STATUS: Nonexempt
    REPORTS TO: Office Manager, Coordinator of Child Nutrition, Director of Child Nutrition & Warehouse Services
    PAY GRADE: PG 3-5 (depending on campus)
    DEPT./SCHOOL: Campus Assigned

    PRIMARY PURPOSE:
    Supervises, trains, and manages campus School Nutrition operations. Ensures that appropriate quantities of food are ordered, prepared and served. Meets time constraints set by the school menu requirements established by School Nutrition and meets health codes promulgated (to make known) by city and state agencies. In the absence of Manager, the Asst. Manager will assume manager responsibilities until otherwise indicated.


    QUALIFICATIONS:

    Education/Certification:

    High school diploma or general education degree (GED)

    All Child Nutrition Staff will be required to follow guidelines for specific job duties which are outlined in Healthy Hunger-Free Kids Act of 2010 Professional Standards for all School Nutrition personnel as required Federal Register, Volume 79, and Number 23. (Copy of guidelines attached to job description)

    Must hold ServSafe Food Protection Manager Certification or obtain certification within 90 days of employment or prior to expiration of existing ServSafe Certification.
    CCISD Child Nutrition Department will pay for one (1) ServSafe Class/Test. If test is failed, it is the responsibility of the employee to pay for any additional classes or tests to obtain Certification.

    Ability to read, writes, and comprehends instructions, short correspondence, and memos
    Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to other employees of the organization
    Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists
    Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form
    Ability to use computer and adding machine
    Ability to calculate recipe conversions using basic math skills

    Experience:
    Two years experience in institutional School Nutrition operations or Restaurant/ Food Service experience.


    MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
    • Supervises and coordinates activities of workers engaged in preparing food, serving meals, and cleaning kitchen.
    • Responsible for creating work schedules, training employees, customer service training, planning, assigning and directing work, appraising performance, accident reports, addressing complaints, and resolving problems.
    • Works with Child Nutrition Office to promote the National School Lunch Program and School Breakfast Program with various marketing and events throughout the school year.
    • Orders and keeps adequate supply of food and supplies.
    • Oversees storage and issuance of supplies.
    • Works with CN Production/Procurement clerk to make substitutions when there is a shortage of the required item due to the item being either out of stock or an inferior product prepared.
    • Coordinates with CN Admin Staff to provide special diets for students requiring special nutritional needs.
    • Keeps records and makes reports of expenditures on breakfast and lunch with number served, portion size, amount prepared and used, and amount of commodities used.
    • Establishes and enforces standards for cleanliness, health, and safety by following health and safety codes and regulations.
    • Orders and checks deliveries from vendors and reports discrepancies in a timely manner.
    • Keeps daily perpetual inventories and turns in an accurate monthly inventory and variance report to Child Nutrition Staff.
    • Supervises cashier functions. Maintains skills for cashier functions stays up to date.
    • Maintains a clean, safe and hazard-free working environment.
    • Submits work orders and maintains logs on all maintenance required on equipment and performs preventive maintenance.
    • Recommends replacement of existing equipment to meet needs of facility.
    • Performs all tasks required of Child Nutrition employees.
    • Must provide a POC for after hour freezer/cooler issues.
    • Performs such other tasks as may be assigned by the Director of Child Nutrition & Warehouse Services, Coordinator for Child Nutrition, Office Manager.
    • Must have a professional standard of appearance required by Child Nutrition. CN Uniform must be worn daily and any changes to uniform must have prior approval to CN Admin Staff.
    • Performs and directs job related proficiency with the highest ethical integrity.
    • Performs and directs with a commitment to promote a quality CNP that meets the nutritional needs of the customers served.Performs and directs with an overall nature that is committed to the goals and visions of the school district.
    • Performs and directs appropriate communication skills with the customers and staff.
    • Provides a friendly service to customers and employees in the Child Nutrition program.
    • Must follow all policies and procedures outlined in the CCISD Employee Handbook.
    • Must follow all SOP’s and polices outlined in the CCISD HACCP Plan and the Texas Food Service Establishment Rules Version 2015.

    CUSTOMER CARE SKILLS:
    • Provide professional communication with students, parents, community members, staff and other professionals at all times.
    • Use proper phone etiquette at all times, speaking slowly and clearly. Take reliable messages, and route to the appropriate staff.
    • Ensure superior customer service care skills are used via eye contact, facial expressions, voice inflections, body language, and an attitude of “going the extra mile” for others.
    • Ensure all request for information are dealt with in an appropriate timeframe.
    • Create and maintain a welcoming, service-oriented environment toward all internal and external customers.

    EQUIPMENT USED:
    Computer knowledge and ten key calculator. Ability to use large and small kitchen equipment to include electric slicer, mixer, pressure steamer, sharp cutting tools, ovens, dishwasher, and food utility carts.

    Ability to add and subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals.

Lift / move up to 40 pounds without assistance. Specific vision abilities required.
    While performing the duties of this job, the employee is sometimes exposed to wet/humid conditions, moderate hot/cold temperatures, and moving kitchen equipment. The employee is occasionally exposed to toxic or caustic (burns and destroys organic tissues) chemicals and risk of electrical shock. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
