CopperPoint has an opportunity for a Senior Claims Assistant. The Senior Claims Assistant is responsible for assisting claim examiners and the claim management team with the clerical and administrative aspects of claim management. As a senior-level assistant works with a higher degree of independence and participates in the training and development of less experienced staff.
Job Responsibilities:
- Provide clerical/administrative support to the workers' compensation claim examiners and the claim management team.
- Issue notices and letters timely and accurately in accordance with statutory guidelines.
- Successfully pass all regulatory, internal, and external audits
- Process payments and benefits timely and accurately
- Follow special handling instructions regarding client-specific processes and procedures.
- Accurately maintain related claim processing and procedure records.
- Keep files on the current diary system to timely monitor new developments and to follow up on outstanding requests. Respond to all other dairy activities.
- Partner with team members to move files to positive outcomes and document results.
- Participate in committee and/or meetings and provide/receive input on bringing issues to the best possible resolution.
- Adhere to service standards, proper file coding, and special claims handling instructions.
- Timely complete medical contacts on appropriate files.
- Complete medical provider contacts timely and accurately on all claims with temporary disability benefits.
- Address internal and external customer service needs timely and professionally
- Actively participate in departmental special project work.
- Partner in the training and development of less experienced claim assistants.
- Oversee claim assistant workloads and ensure timely completion of the claim assistant work.
- Successfully complete the annual corporate Code of Conduct Training. Demonstrate full knowledge, understanding, and compliance with the Code. (Note: As a subsidiary company of Alleghany Corporation we adhere to the Alleghany Corporate Code of Business Conduct and Ethics).
- Assist with the training and development of less experienced claim assistants.
Qualifications/Competencies:
- Bachelor’s degree required.
- 3 years experience in a claims assistant role or equivalent.
- Insurance Education Association (IEA) or Self-Insurance Plan (SIP) certification or equivalent a plus.
- Exceptional judgment and prioritization skills.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
- Exceptional customer service skills.
- Ability to anticipate problems and resolve issues proactively.
- Computer skills and knowledge of relevant software.
- Exceptional organizational and time management skills.
- Spanish Bilingual a plus
- Strong collaboration skills – requires the ability to partner with vendors, team members, and managers to move files to positive conclusions.
- Intermediate-level math and calculator skills.
