Job Title: Education Assistant Assignment: Special Education
Reports to: Principal/Special Education Director Evaluated by: Special Education Dir.
Position Overview: To perform duties in support of the teachers in special education programs.
Essential Job Functions:
- Work with students on as-needed basis.
- Adhere to established guidelines for behavior management and demonstrate appropriate role modeling for behavior.
- Learn, understand and implement instruction and accommodations needed for student in all educational settings.
- Provide supplemental instruction as directed.
- Maintain a daily journal to document assigned student’s behavior and anecdotes.
- Recognize special needs of student and relay needed information to appropriate school personnel.
- Become familiar with appropriate developmental goals for the assigned student.
- Other duties as assigned
Other Job Functions:
- Prepare reports and documents as needed.
- Review and organize IEP files per standards as requested.
- Adapt and provide materials as needed.
- Recognize special needs of student and relay information to appropriate personnel.
- Provide supplemental tutoring as directed by teaching staff.
Qualifications:
Knowledge of:
- Meet Highly Qualified requirements by having at least 48 college credits or passing the district approved NCRC exam at level 5.
- Effective communication skills
- Problem solving skills
- Effective written skills
Ability to:
- Follow oral and written instructions given by personnel
- Respect confidential information concerning students’ school performance and disabilities.
- Maintain composure in stressful situations
- Summarize educational content and materials
- Establish a working relationship with child and child’s teacher.
- Maintain regular attendance.
- Maintain professional dress and cleanliness
Experience:
- Prior experience working with special needs children desired
Physical Requirements:
