What are the responsibilities and job description for the Registered Nurse- ER, Full-Time- (Day Shift) position at Coquille Valley Hospital?
Purpose/Description-
- RN to cover needed shifts in the ER. Works under the general supervision of the Nurse Manager and Assistant Nurse Manager. Performs duties by applying professional nursing theory and principles, and utilizes the nursing process to assess, plan, implement and evaluate care given to patients in the emergency room. Works collaboratively with the interdisciplinary health care team in providing patient care. Demonstrates clinical, organizational and communication skills in dealing with patients, families and other health care workers. Provides care that meet the psychosocial, physical on general aspects of care. Observe patients and carry out medical treatments. Use computerized equipment to monitor patients' vital signs, then record their observations and other medical data in patients' charts. Consult with medical staff about ways to prevent infection. Determines priorities of care based on physical and psychosocial needs of patients, as well as factors influencing patient flow through the system. Communicates with physicians regarding changes in patients’ status, symptomatology and results of diagnostic studies. Responds quickly and accurately to changes in condition or response to treatment.
Requirements
Education and Experience-
Education:
- Graduate of an accredited school of nursing required, an associate's degree in nursing (A.D.N.), or bachelor’s degree in nursing (B.S.N.) preferred.
Experience:
- Two (2) Years’ experience in ER/Critical Care preferred.
License/ Certification:
- Current Oregon Registered Nurse licensure required at date of hire.
- Current BLS (Basic Life Support) required.
- ACLS required.
- PALS required.
- TNCC required.
Duties and Responsibilities-
Essential Duties:
- Observe patients. Monitor vital signs using computerized equipment.
- Record patients' medical information, vital signs, and progress.
- Discuss cases with doctors and other medical staff.
- Advise and consult with staff about ways to prevent infection.
- Manage care plans for patients.
- Give patients treatments and medications.
- Maintain stock of supplies.
- Coordinate care with ancillary staff such as Lab, Medical Imaging, Respiratory Therapy, etc.
- Prepare patients and assist with exams.
- Provide patient education about their health condition, treatment and after care.
- Provide discharge planning as necessary: Decide as soon as the patient is admitted where the patient needs to be placed after being cared for.
- Arrange for in home health care, equipment for example hospital bed, walkers, oxygen; coordinate with the medical equipment agencies and businesses.
- Interact with Pharmacy to mix medications, pass meds, pull drugs from pharmacy check and fill drug cart.
- Provide nursing support for ER.
- Other duties as assigned.
