Summary  

Provide vacation relief for all hourly receiving staff and assist in coverage of supervisory  staff as needed. Provide guidance, training, and direction as needed to receiving staff.   Interact with internal and external customers as needed. Assist supervisory staff in  meeting performance goals including people/food safety, counting, tattooing accuracy  goals and support our animal welfare requirements.  

 

Education, Licensure and Experience    

  1. Animal handling experience preferred, primarily swine handling experience
  2. Ability to work closely with supervisors and employees to provide feedback on performance and handling skills
  3. Work closely with government inspectors
  4. Work closely with external hog transporters and provide them plant feedback as needed
  5. supervisory or lead experience preferred
  6. High school education or equivalent
  7. Knowledge of AS400 data collection system
  8. HACCP Certification
  9. Bilingual preferred

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following (Please note:  This in no  way states or implies that these are the only duties you will be required to

1.  Unload livestock trucks by following unloading procedures.   

2.  Sort hogs according to quality and weight.  

3.  Maintain animal identification by tattooing all hogs.   

4.  Maintain a head count of hogs received.   

5.  Maintain relationship with truckers to ensure livestock are handled properly.   

6.  Input information into the computer system as the hogs are received to allow for pricing and payment to producers.    

7.  Sort and pen livestock.  

8.  Clean pens and alleyways.  

9.  Check all paperwork for accuracy and enter on computer.  

10. Take care of and account for hogs.  

11. Follow all animal welfare and handling protocols.    

12. Follow all safety procedures and protocols.  

13. Lead and interact with employees to provide guidance on tasks to complete.    
14. Provide feedback to employees in regard to performance and direction.   

15. Provide relief to supervisors as needed.   

16. Other duties as assigned.  


Supervisory Responsibilities     

Assist department supervisor in day-to-day tasks.  Fill in for supervisor in emergency  situations.                                    

Language Skills  

Must be able to read, write, speak and understand the language of the majority cultural  group in order to communicate effectively.  Must be able to hear enough to understand  those individuals as well. Ability to read, interpret, and comprehend documents such as  grafts/flow sheets, financials, general professional articles and publications,   governmental regulations, safety rules, assignment sheets, and procedure manuals.   

Must be able to write reports, business correspondence, policies and procedures, and  other administrative forms as outlined above.
