About the Unit3 MHC is a 24 bed Prep/Recovery unit at Meijer Heart Center that prepares and recovers both outpatients and inpatients for their Cath and Electrophysiology Lab procedures. The unit is open from 6am – 9pm. The majority of 3 Heart outpatients are discharged the same day and are cared for by the same staff from arrival to discharge. Experience as a Nurse Tech is preferred, and flexibility with scheduling and ability to attend all required orientation classes that are not part of the regular core schedule during the first weeks with this team, is a must.
Scope of work
The pace of this unit is very fast and includes doing our own patient transport within the hospital. We perform a wide range of procedures on 3MHC, including, electrophysiology, diagnostic and interventional cardiology, structural heart, and peripheral. Team members hired onto 3MHC will gain knowledge in all of these specialties. In addition, we perform diagnostic and follow up care to our heart and lung transplant patients, creating an opportunity for long term relationships with this patient population. Our team are experts at IV starts, time management, and managing vascular access sites. Our NT’s remove femoral arterial and venous sheaths and manage the site to gain hemostasis.
2 Week Rotating Core Schedule:
Week 1: Tuesday: 7:00am-7:30pm, Friday : 6:30am-7:00pm
Week 2: Thursday: 7:00am-7:30pm, Friday 6:30am-7:00pm
Orientation and Training
The role will begin with 2 days of training in a simulation center and 1 day of EPIC training with our Nurse Educators. These are prescheduled classes from 8 am to 4:30 pm. These in person classes will typically fall on Monday through Thursday week 1 of employment. Because these classes are prescheduled, you must attend all full days, and we cannot reschedule any of the required dates if you cannot attend. Attendance is compensated, as it is required for compliance.
A Sheath Removal Class is also required: April 10th/May 16th.
A series of 4 ECG Classes are also a part of the orientation for this unit and are required from 8am-noon:
March 8, 12, 15, 19
April 12, 16, 19, 23
