Cornell University Library (CUL) seeks a Business Librarian. We are looking for someone who is dedicated to helping teachers and learners, has an interest in business or hospitality, and a willingness to learn and be proactive and forward-thinking. The Business Librarian will integrate information and other literacies into the Nolan School of Hotel Administration’s curriculum through various teaching and learning activities and assess student learning. They will also provide business research and reference services and scholarly communication support, some in partnership with other Cornell University Library units and departments. This position will work as part of a team to deliver innovative and iterative support for university-wide entrepreneurship initiatives across the Ithaca and New York City campuses. As an Research, Teaching, and Extension (RTE) faculty member, the Business Librarian will engage in service, scholarship, and ongoing professional development to meet the requirements of promotion and reappointment at Cornell University Library.


The anticipated academic rank for this entry-level position is Assistant Librarian. To be eligible, candidates may have no more than three years of full-time, professional librarian experience.


Candidate Profile:

  • A master’s degree in library and information science from an ALA accredited institution or advanced degree in a related discipline. December 2023 graduates are encouraged to apply.
  • A background in, or applicable knowledge of, business, hospitality, real estate, and/or entrepreneurship.
  • A demonstrated ability to continuously learn new skills, technologies, and methods and to apply those to your work.
  • An ability to effectively foster positive work relationships and to collaborate in a team environment. You have experience in building connection and community.
  • Evidence of excellent organizational and written/oral communication skills.
  • A demonstrated ability to deliver excellent service in a fast-paced environment.
  • A commitment to fostering diversity, inclusion, and belonging in the organization where you work and in the communities that you engage.

Additionally, we would prefer any of the following:

  • Experience providing reference services and/or library instruction in an academic or research library.
  • Knowledge of instructional design, teaching practices, or assessment principles that create effective and user-centered learning environments.

This position is in Ithaca, New York. The selected candidate will typically work on the Ithaca campus 4 days per week, with potential for entering a flexible work arrangement to allow remote work 1 day per week. The university reserves the right to modify, suspend, revoke, or terminate the hybrid work arrangement at any time.


The New York Convenience of employer guidelines require New York State individual tax reporting and withholdings for this position. Additional individual state income tax filings may also be required if working temporarily outside New York State.

This position will be in the Nestlé Library which plays a pivotal role in supporting the research, teaching, and learning needs of those in the Nolan School of Hotel Administration and SC Johnson College of Business. As the only Ivy League business management program exclusively dedicated to the hospitality industry, the Nolan School of Hotel Administration teaches operations, marketing, finance, management, and real estate to provide students with a comprehensive education that prepares them to become leaders in the dynamic and global hospitality industry. You may also help address the business research, teaching, and learning needs of the broader Cornell University community as needed. As the Business Librarian, you will also be part of the Business, Engineering, and Entrepreneurship team composed of dedicated business, engineering, and technology professionals who are passionate about teaching, data, scholarly communication, entrepreneurship, career support, and more. While your primary location will be the Nestlé Library, you will have the exciting opportunity to collaborate and learn from colleagues across other unit libraries in the Cornell University Library system.
