Scope of Position:
This is a research position focused on printing materials and processes. In particular, the candidate should have experience with materials and processes associated with inkjet printing. This position requires knowledge of glass handling as appropriate for application of coatings including cleaning methods such as plasma treatments. This position also requires knowledge of inks and ink characterization as well as printed part measurements such as color, optical density, coating thickness adhesion performance, etc. The candidate should be familiar with various curing treatments, including UV curing and/or thermal curing. This position requires an understanding of chemical and material engineering as well as experimental design. The candidate should be capable of developing and executing experimental plans as well as performing rudimentary data analysis. The responsibilities of this position include participating in various R&D projects, both fundamental and applied. Other expectations for this role include contributing to new product development, building internal and external professional networks, writing technical reports and SOPs as needed, and contributing to intellectual property.
Day to Day Responsibilities:
- Work with the supervisor, when appropriate, to help develop experimental plans
- Given an experimental plan, execute that plan with rigor and careful attention to details
- Identify and articulate observations and note them in discussion/reports to the supervisor
- Perform rudimentary data analysis and report back to supervisor
- Make suggestions for how to improve experimental plans based on observations
- Function as a team member on R&D projects
- Make technical presentations when appropriate
Education and Experience: B.S. in Ceramic Engineering
Required Skills:
- Ability to carry out experimental plans with careful attention to details
- Ability to execute experiments and perform rudimentary data analysis
- Knowledge of various inkjet printers (e.g. Dimatix, LP-50)
- Ability to troubleshoot inkjet printers and address printing quality issues
- Ability to work with other scientists and technicians
- Strong communication skills
Desired Skills:
- Understanding of basic characterization methods
