Description
The Plant Manager oversees daily operations including production, safety, quality, engineering, maintenance, shipping and receiving, procurement, and production scheduling to ensure policies and procedures are followed. Due to the relatively small size of the plant and staff, the Plant Manager is proficient in the technical aspects of the areas mentioned above with a focus on manufacturing.
Essential Job Duties and Requirements:
Plan, organize, direct, and run optimum day-to-day operations.
Monitor operations and implement corrective actions as needed.
Have a good understanding of OSHA safety regulations with the objective of keeping all employees safe as well as protecting the company from issues relating to poor safety. practices. Have processes in place to ensure safety rules and policies are being followed.
Regularly walk the floor to enforce safety policy and be attentive to safety issues requiring intervention.
Responsible for production output, product quality, and on-time shipping.
Focus on increasing productivity, asset utilization, flexibility, and profitability. Thorough understanding of manufacturing processes, production planning processes, Lean manufacturing concepts, and the ability to perform cost analysis for capital projects geared towards improving capacity and productivity.
Responsible to set the operating plan for the plant and manage implementation to meet timelines.
Active involvement to develop the staff including coaching and discipline. Take actions necessary to improve the performance of the staff.
Knowledgeable in HR practices and BWC law affecting plant operations.
Basic understanding of engineering as it pertains to metal fabrication; actively participate in design discussions as well as discussions with vendors.
Adequate knowledge of business and management principles to read financial statements.
Understanding of sales and marketing principles.
Employ management by walking around spending significant time on the floor. Develop relationships with the production associates by taking an interest in their jobs.
Strong union relations with a One Cornwell team approach; effectively communicate if the company does well this will translate into all being able to do better.
Due to a small management team, the plant manager must be able to see where emphasis is needed and provide guidance to people being asked to step outside their comfort zone.
Supervisor Responsibilities:
Supervise up to ten direct reports.
Requirements
Education
Four year degree, engineering a plus, commensurate experience can be substituted for formal education.
Lean manufacturing training preferred.
Experience
Ten years of plant management preferred; upper level lead role in a manufacturing environment required.
A background in metal fabrication is preferred.
Experience in a union environment preferred.

PHYSIAL DEMANDS
Stand and walk for long periods of time.
Able to reach above head.
Sit, climb, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
Lift and / or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and / or move up to 80 pounds.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
Frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts.
Extreme heat and vibration on occasion.
Moderate to high noise level
