Crew Foreman
Position: Crew Foreman
Program: Energy Services
Reports to: Sr. Auditor
Status: Full-time, Non-Exempt
Schedule: Monday through Friday 7:30am-4:00pm, 40 hours/week
Starting Wage: $23 per hour
Job Function: Oversee and direct the weatherization crew, educate clients in Energy Conservation, and perform energy conservation on client's homes as needed to meet production goals by performing the following duties personally and/or through the Energy Services Crew.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- Carry out work scopes complying with funding source policies and procedures with guidance from supervisors.
- Provide and ensure all clients receive energy conservation education. Performs weatherization measures on client's homes when necessary to maintain contract production goals.
- Assign Site Crew jobs and provide them with comprehensive work scopes, purchase orders, inventory materials, and any other relevant paperwork to ensure completeness, anticipate problems that may cause production delays. Estimate job completion times and/or coordinating with the office staff to schedule jobs for the continuation of production.
- Perform work scope measures on all buildings which includes, but not limited to: heating, distribution, windows, doors, air sealing, insulating (wall, attic, rim, crawl spaces), domestic hot water, health & safety, venting, misc. repair and other measures as determined by the program guidelines and/or Supervisors.
- Ensure that all necessary documentation, (i.e., daily timesheets, inventory control forms, gas receipts, mileage sheets, invoices, etc.) are legibly and fully completed and turned in to the Account Clerk daily. Maintain proper accounting of all materials, tools, and equipment assigned.
- Conduct post inspection on all jobs to ensure quality and quantity standards are met before the Quality Control Inspection (QCI) is completed. Contact Auditor when the job is ready for the QCI.
- Responsible for ensuring that any agency vehicle assigned to him/her is properly maintained and cared for, immediately notifying the Auditor/QCI or Director of any mechanical problems.
- Comply with agency and department safety policies including but not limited to OSHA and Weatherization Lead Safe Work Practices.
- Report any problems encountered or any client complaints concerning the program immediately to management for problem follow-up and resolution.
- Implement new practices and procedures as directed. Attend trainings as assigned.
Supervisory Responsibilities: Directly supervises 3-5 employees. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints, resolving problems and/or knowing when to escalate employee issues to supervisors/leadership staff.
Education and/or Experience
High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or 2 year technical school, plus five years construction experience, and two years supervisory experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations
Must hold or obtain upon employment Mandatory HCR Trainings- Basic Air Sealing, Health & Safety, 1 Day Lead Safe, and EPA Lead renovator certificates.
Must complete BPI – Building Analyst & Heating Specialist Certification. Lead Safe work practices, Heating certification for the City of Cortland, and hold a NYS Driver's License.
Physical Demands & Work Environment: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl and talk or hear. The employee is frequently occasionally required to sit and climb or balance. In some cases, in tight or confined crawl spaces. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision. Must be able to travel 80% of the time.
While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts; high, precarious places and outside weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. Potential hazards such as exposure to lead, asbestos, gas leaks, chemicals and others as found in construction related activities.
