Subrogation Specialist

CorVel in San Diego, CA is seeking a full time Claims Specialist to work in our subrogation department. The Claims Specialist manages within company and customer standards and best practices.  General requirements are to identify subrogation potential, contact carriers or attorneys, send lien letters, negotiate settlements, calculate lien reimbursements, work closely with claims specialists, supervisors, defense attorneys and customer risk managers.  CorVel is a service third party administrator and client service provider. Experience in workers compensation subrogation or auto damage subrogation preferred.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS & RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Identifies potential subrogation claims and places at fault parties on notice for potential reimbursement.
• Create demand letters using calculations for auto damage or workers comp medical damages. 
• Maintains diary and spreadsheet to manage claim queue.
• Determine what state-specific subrogation rules or case law applies to a claim, apply that knowledge to the negotiations. 
• Work independently with limited supervision.
• Manage a queue of approximated 250-300 claims.
• Communicate claim status with customer and work comp adjuster.
• Participate in occasional claim reviews with customers providing status updates. Develops & maintains professional customer relationships

KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS:

• Excellent oral and written communication skills
• PC literate, including Microsoft Office (Word, Excel)
• Effective analytical and interpretive skills
• Strong organizational skills
• Good interpersonal skills
• Ability to work in a team environment and independently
• Knowledge of the entire claims administration, subrogation, and Workers Compensation investigation procedures.
• Knowledge of third-party collections
• Research, analyze, and interpret nationwide subrogation laws 
• Professionalism in writing emails and letters 

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

• Four-year degree at an accredited college or university preferred
• Excellent oral, written communication skills & customer service
• PC literate, including Microsoft Office (Word, Excel)
• Effective analytical & interpretive skills
• Strong organizational skills
• Great interpersonal skills
• Ability to work in a team environment
• Ability to work independently

PAY RANGE:

CorVel uses a market based approach to pay and our salary ranges may vary depending on your location.  Pay rates are established taking into account the following factors:  federal, state, and local minimum wage requirements, the geographic location differential, job-related skills, experience, qualifications, internal employee equity, and market conditions.  Our ranges may be modified at any time.

Pay Range: $17.91 - $28.91 per hour
