Maintenance Technician

Job Title: Maintenance Technician or Senior Maintenance Technician

INTERRELATIONSHIPS:

Works closely with the Director, the Senior Technician and all other departments with which he may come in contact; also, with patients, visitors and outside contacts with vendors.

JOB SUMMARY:

Performs assigned preventive maintenance tasks, testing, inspections and on-site repairs when appropriate.  Reports problems or potential problems to the Director.  Completes in a timely manner, daily repair requests and assigned work requests involving: landscaping, automotive, carpentry, plumbing and basic electrical skills.   Responsible and reliable problem solver that follows department Policies and Procedures.  May supervise other department staff and or vendors as directed.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Responds to all daily repairs and work orders as assigned.
2. Performs assigned preventive maintenance inspections, and tests according to department policy as assigned
3. Trouble shoot mechanical & electrical systems in support of plant operations. Must be able to recommend repair options and collaborate with the department staff.
4. Complete routine tasks in accordance with SOP’s.
5. Perform ground maintenance: snow removal, lawn care, parking lot maintenance as assigned. 
6. Perform rough and finish carpentry (start to finish) as assigned.
7. Perform schedules and monitors all hospital vehicles for all needed maintenance to include vehicle registration and inspection.
8. Perform repairs as assigned in the maintenance of hospital, satellite operations, and lease and rental property.
9. Reviews department Policies and Procedures annually.
10. Successfully complete annual mandatory training (Elsevier).
11. Performs “on-call duties” assigned (rotating schedule).
12. Remains informed of Critical Access Hospital Condition of Participation (CAH COP) standards related to plant technology and safety management programs and performs assigned duties in order to comply with such standards

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education

Minimum High school diploma with One year of experience in maintenance work and building                                          trades. General carpentry, plumbing, automotive and base electrical skills are must.

Work Experience

Must be familiar with building maintenance techniques, equipment and operation of plumbing, heating systems, sanitation, refrigeration, electrical systems.  Must have general knowledge to be able to detect malfunctioning equipment and see that it is repaired. Strong trouble shooting skills are a must. Position requires the ability to work with minimal direction.

Physical Demands

Standing or walking more than 75% of the day.  Handles loads weighing up to 50 lbs. with heavier loads handled with aid of helper or mechanical equipment.  Stoops and climbs frequently.  Works both inside and outside.  May be required to work long hours under stress in an emergency situation.

Working at Cottage: Facilities – Maintenance – Plant Services

The Maintenance department at Cottage Hospital provides support for all areas of the Hospital 24/7. We are a small campus facility in a non-urban setting with a diversified work load. Approximately 40% of this position involves routine tasks (planned and scheduled maintenance) throughout the campus. The balance of the work load is a mixed variety of landscaping, carpentry and plumbing tasks in all areas of the campus. 

Our Teams Work Dynamic

• The department is comprised of (4) full time staff members.
• The department has several Per Diem Staff that cover vacations and help with on call support.
• The department is staffed from 6 am to 4 pm. 5 days per week.
  • The department is closed on weekends and Holidays (covered by On Call Person)
  • Normal day is 7.5 hours and the department Director will set your shift schedule.
  • Special projects and or emergencies may require overtime and or alternate work schedule.
• On Call is a requirement for all department staff:
  • It lasts for 7 consecutive days.  
  • When the department is fully staffed, the On-Call rotation is approximately every 4^th week.

Position requires staff to have the following skills to be able to successfully perform assigned tasks:

• • Rough & finish carpentry
  • Drywall installation and finishing
  • Interior and exterior painting
  • Plumbing and piping repairs
  • Knowledge of basic electrical circuits and systems (commercial / residential)
  • Must have basic computer skills (Microsoft Office) and the ability to learn custom building security and access control software.
