JOB SUMMARY
Under the general supervision of the Paramedic/Shift Supervisor, the Paramedic provides highly skilled, specialized emergency medical care to the sick and injured. The employee in this position responds to ambulance calls, renders medical assistance, and transports patients to the proper facility. This position is distinguishable from that of an EMT in that the position requires further certification and can perform specialized medical treatment and administer drugs.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Responds to ambulance calls and assists in-patient emergency medical treatment;
- Operates emergency vehicles and equipment;
- Administers IV’s and drugs under department standing orders or physician orders;
- Transports patients to proper facilities;
- Prepares call and patient reports;
- Responds to rescue scenes and performs extrication of trapped or injured persons;
- Assists with department trainings;
- Performs daily maintenance duties including cleaning EMS station;
- Performs station and equipment maintenance;
- Supervises subordinate personnel in the absence of Paramedic/Shift Supervisor and/or Paramedic/Shift Lieutenant; and
- Other related duties as deemed necessary or as required.
