Income Maintenance Caseworker II/FNS Unit for Dept of Social Services

The Responsibilities and Duties are as follows:

90% Public Assistance

The caseworker: interviews and investigates applicants for public assistance to gather information pertinent to their application; explains eligibility requirements, form completion requirements, and community resources for financial assistance; selects and refers eligible applicants to public assistance; interprets and explains rules and regulations governing eligibility and grants, payment methods, and applicant's legal rights; records and evaluates personal and financial data to determine initial or continuing eligibility; initiates procedures to grant, modify, deny or terminate eligibility and grants for various assistance programs; authorizes amounts of grants, payments, daycare, or other general assistance; prepares regular and special reports, keeps records of assigned cases, and submits individual recommendations; prepares and assists applicants in completion of routine intake and personnel forms; reviews training approval forms and payment vouchers for completeness and accuracy; secures supplementary information, such as employment or other financial records; counsels individuals or family members regarding resources; refers client to community resources for needed assistance; determines client's eligibility for financial assistance; reviews service plan and performs follow-up to determine quantity and quality of service provided to client.

10% Other Duties

The case worker adheres to other duties assigned to by the Director at the Director’s discretion. The caseworker also assists in disaster relief efforts that include but it not limited to shelter duty.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES, EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

• Considerable knowledge of the program/areas of assignment. General knowledge of all agency and community programs and services which could affect the client/applicant. Good mathematical reasoning and computational skills. Ability to read, analyze and interpret rules, regulations, and procedures. Ability to communicate with clients/applicants, the public at large, and public officials to obtain data, and to explain and interpret rules, regulations, and procedures. Ability to instruct and to evaluate the work of lower-level employees. Ability to perform caseworker functions within structured time limits.
• Minimum Training and Experience Requirements - One year of experience as an Income Maintenance Caseworker; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
• Valid NC Driver’s license and vehicle accessible for work.
