What are the responsibilities and job description for the SOLID WASTE OFFICIAL position at County of Goodhue?
Goodhue County is actively recruiting qualified applicants for the full time position of Solid Waste Official. The Solid Waste Official takes a lead role in developing and implementing a County Solid Waste Management Plan, implementing the County’s Household Hazardous Waste Management Program, and developing and implementing the County’s Water Plan. This employee is also a member of the Technical Evaluation Panel for Goodhue County for the implementation of the Wetland Conservation Act.
Primary Responsibilities
- Report to County officials regarding waste management issues, current conditions, and future planning strategies.
- Work with solid waste facilities operators in the private and public sectors to ensure compliance and effective operations.
- Drive semi-truck to collection sites, set-up site for collection.
- Serve on the Goodhue County Water Plan Technical Committee to review and recommend strategies and changes to the County Water Plan.
- Collect/analyze data to update the County’s Solid Waste Management Plan as required by the State of Minnesota (MPCA).
- Operating conveyors and sorting plastics, aluminum and tin.
- Operating horizontal baler for aluminum, cardboard, paper and plastic.
Minimum Qualifications
- Two years of relevant experience
- Class A Commercial Drivers License
- Obtain Hazardous Materials Endorsement within 1 year of hiring
- Knowledge of Federal and State Environmental and Waste Management related laws and rules as they pertain to job duties
- Ability to lift heavy objects (up to 50 pounds unassisted) on a regular basis
Ability to obtain the following training within the first year of employment:
- Minnesota Pollution Control Agency 24-Hour Hazardous Material Safety Training
- CPR and First Aid training
- Minnesota Pollution Control Agency Type II Landfill Operator Certification
- Board of Water and Soil Resources Wetland Conservation Act administration training
- Forklift operator certification
Salary & Benefits
County employees receive competitive pay and a generous benefit offering. The starting salary for this position is $26.41 per hour.
