DEPARTMENT: Sheriff’s Office
LOCATION: Courthouse and affiliate offices
SALARY: $13.42/hr (SEIU PG 7) Regular Full-Time
HOURS: Daylight
Monday – Friday
1/2 Hour Unpaid Lunch
40 Hours per Week

OVERALL OBJECTIVE OF THE JOB:
Security Officers are responsible for the safeguarding and security of the Greene County Courthouse and affiliate County offices, its assets, employees and members of the public. This is accomplished through the use of access control equipment such as; metal detectors, X-ray machines, and by monitoring the alarm systems and closed circuit cameras. Officers occupy stationary posts and provide interior and exterior patrols of the Courthouse Complex.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE JOB:
1. Performs all safety and security related duties including, but not limited to; conduct patrols of the facility, process visitors through the weapons detection equipment, responds to active alarms, complete necessary reports, and provide a security presence, as needed, in the various offices and courtrooms.
2. Responds to and resolves any medical or security related emergency which may occur within the complex.
3. Assists with the evacuation of the complex during fires or other emergency situations.
4. Identifies law enforcement officers and determines their authority to carry weapons into the Courthouse Complex.
5. Monitors hearings and interviews, as required, by the Victim Witness, Domestic Relations, Children and Youth or other staff offices.
OTHER DUTIES OF THE JOB:
1. Attends meetings as required.
2. Performs other tasks as assigned by Supervisor to ensure that program quality and program requirements are maintained.
3. Performs related work as required.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED:
Receives daily supervision from the Sheriff.
SUPERVISION GIVEN:
None
WORKING CONDITIONS:
- Works indoors in adequate work space, temperatures, ventilation and lighting.
- Works with average indoor exposure to noise, stress and disruptions.
- Normal indoor exposure to dust/dirt.
PHYSICAL AND MENTAL REQUIREMENTS:
1. Ability to effectively deploy various weapons and defensive weapons and defensive measures techniques to maintain control of potentially deadly situations.
2. Ability to wear protective body armor.
3. Ability to stand, walk, bend, lift, and carry or pull items up to fifty (50) pounds frequently.
4. Ability to run short distances, climb four (4) flights of stairs, and kneel occasionally.
5. Ability to crawl rarely.
6. Applicant must submit to a pre-employment physical and be found by the examining physician to be fit to perform the duties of a Greene County Security Officer.
EDUCATION AND TRAINING:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Experience with a military or civilian law enforcement agency is preferred. A successful pre-employment physical and drug screening test, criminal background check, and minimum qualification with issued semi-automatic handgun are a required term for employment.
LICENSE(S) AND CERTIFICATION(S):
Lethal weapons training or capable of being certified with a lethal weapon (Act 235)
CPR training and First Aid.
KNOWLEDGE OF OR WILLINGNESS TO BE TRAINED IN:
- Law enforcement and criminal procedures.
- Basic security operating procedures.
- Weapon detection techniques.
- Basic first aid techniques.
- Defensive measures techniques.
SKILLS REQUIRED:
- Skills in public and interpersonal relations.
- Skills in crisis intervention.
- Skills in basic computer software programs.
- Skills in security surveillance including, but not limited to camera surveillance.
- Skills in organization and multi-tasking.
- Skills in problem solving.
ABILITIES REQUIRED:
- Ability to comprehend and apply Post Orders and Standard Operating Procedures.
- Ability to work effectively with disturbed and maladjusted individuals.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with coworkers, members of the public and law enforcement agencies.
- Ability to maintain the confidentiality of sensitive information.
