Job Title:  Juvenile Court Officer

Starting Salary: $43,896.00 / $22.5110 hr

Position Status (Full time or part time): Full time

Position Schedule: Monday – Friday; 8 am – 4:30 pm

 

Position Summary

Court Officers are directly responsible to the Deputy Director and, in his/her absence, to the Director. They shall perform all investigator responsibilities and supervision of all cases assigned.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

 Juvenile Division duties:

  • Prepare further social investigation reports for the Court.
  • Hold each juvenile offender directly responsible for his/her acts and subsequent orders of the court.
  • Supervise assigned caseload which will include traveling to the minor’s homes, schools, and possible places of employment.
  • Attend court hearings of the assigned caseload as well as attending other hearings at the request of the Deputy Director.
  • Provide counseling support, supervision, and service coordination when necessary.
  • Promote and provide programs and services that are community-based and that are in close proximity to the minor’s home. A court officer shall possess a knowledge of local social service agencies in order to accomplish the necessary referral process.
  • Monitor and document services provided by these agencies that the minor and family are referred to.
  • Base probation treatment planning upon individual case management plans, by use of the Juvenile Risk Assessment (JRA) and development of a case plan based upon the assessment.
  • Include the minor’s family in the case management plan when appropriate.
  • Accept direction of the P2 and Deputy Director of Court Services.
  • Develop employment opportunities for juveniles, based upon individual need.
  • Conduct urinalysis and or breath alcohol analysis as needed as ordered.
  • Act as liaison officer between schools, agencies, juveniles, and parents.
  • Utilize UNITY system when needed for travel permits, out of state transfers.
  • Possess a working knowledge of the Juvenile Court Act.
  • Portray to the juvenile and family an attitude of realistic values, by modeling pro-social behaviors.
  • Explain to the family and the juvenile that the juvenile is accountable for their unlawful behavior and the family is responsible for enforcing the orders of the Court.
  • Keep chronological case records on the individual in the EJS system.
  • Recommend with supervisor approval early discharge (if statute allows) upon the satisfactory completion of his/her probation plan.
  • Arrange appropriate out of home placements by first meeting with the Deputy Director for approval of seeking an out of home placement.
  • Supervise student interns.
  • Transport juveniles to detention or placement when required.
  • Possess knowledge and the ability to draft requests for Revocation Petitions for purposes of further court proceedings.
  • Attending training courses as designated by the Director and/or Deputy Director of the Court Services office including mandatory annual training hours per AIOC standards.
  • Develop a working knowledge of Core Correctional Practices (CCP), routinely utilizing CCP skills with the assigned caseload.
  • Make day-to-day decisions necessary to supervise assigned caseload and other daily duties.
  • Maintain and submit monthly statistics as directed by management.
  • Meet with the P2/Deputy Director on a regular basis to discuss overall case status and be prepared to answer questions regarding the handling of cases and case audits.
  • Attend, and participate in, department staff meetings.
  • Additional duties and responsibilities may be assigned as future considerations so indicate.

 

Additional duties and responsibilities may be assigned as future considerations dictate. Should such changes take place, they will be done by means of an Administrative Order. These changes shall be inserted into this section of the manual. Any Administrative Orders which change duties or responsibilities presently existing shall state those being superseded.

Required Qualifications

  • Possess as Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited university
  • Must be registered with the Administrative Office of the Illinois Courts approved hire list

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited university with major course work in Criminal Justice, Psychology, Sociology, Social Work or related field

Physical Attributes/Demands

  • Ability to use a computer daily
  • Ability to effectively communicate daily
  • Ability to work in a diverse setting while at times under pressure
  • Ability to work independently as well as with a team
  • Ability to work with high level of accuracy under short deadlines
  • Ability to work non-traditional hours – weekends or evening hours, as needed.
