CORRENCTIONAL PROGRAMS SUPERVISOR I

This recruitment is being held to establish an eligible list to fill current and future Correctional Programs Supervisor I positions within the Sheriff’s Department. As future vacancies occur throughout the County of Orange, candidates referred to the eligible list will be contacted. This list may also be used to fill positions at a lower level within this occupational series.
THE DIVISION
The Sheriff's Correctional Programs and Inmate Re-Entry Units of the Inmate Services Division provide inmates the opportunity for an effective rehabilitative experience while incarcerated, without cost to taxpayers. Inmate programs and services related to rehabilitation opportunities are mandated by the California Code of Regulations, Title 15 "Minimum Jail Standards" and related case law. These activities are planned, coordinated, conducted and evaluated at each OCSD jail facility by the Correctional Programs and Inmate Re-Entry staff. Typical programs include certified education in academic studies, vocational education training and life skill classes such as Parenting and Job Development. The Programs and Re-Entry Units also provide opportunities for personal change, including programs focusing on substance abuse recovery, domestic violence, anger management, library services, religious and inspirational programs and pre-release preparation and assistance as well as post release services – all designed to maximize the chances of an inmate's successful transition to the community at release and to help reduce recidivism.

The Programs Unit also provides opportunities for personal change, including programs focusing on substance abuse recovery, domestic violence, anger management, fitness and exercise, general and law library services, religious and inspirational programs and pre-release preparation and assistance – all designed to maximize the chances of an inmate's successful transition to the community at release and to help reduce recidivism.
THE OPPORTUNITY
The Orange County Sheriff's Department, Inmate Services Division, is looking for an innovative leader, under direction, to provide site supervision, to plan, organize, develop and evaluate recreational, academic, vocational, counseling, and other inmate assistance programs and services provided to inmates incarcerated in a County adult correctional facility, in compliance with the California Code of Regulations, Titles 15 and 24 of the Minimum Jail Standards and related case law. Through subordinate supervisors, to supervise staff conducting program activities, to formulate and maintain program records and to do other work/projects as required.

Education and Experience
A Bachelor's degree in teaching, training, counseling, testing or a closely related field, and six (6) months experience (including supervision of paid staff), as verified by the office of GED Coordinator, California Department of Education.
Or
Four (4) and one/half years of experience and certification by the office of G.E.D. Coordinator, California Department of Education by date of appointment.
Related college coursework may substitute up to four (4) years of experience at the rate of three semester units for one month of experience.
License/Certification
Possession of a valid California Driver License, class C or higher, by date of appointment. The County may waive this requirement when an alternative method of transportation acceptable to the County is available.
SPECIAL QUALIFICATIONS
Applicants must not have been convicted of a felony or be on any form of probation and must pass an extensive background investigation to the satisfaction of the Orange County Sheriff-Coroner.
Background screening includes completing of a Personal History Form, interview with a background investigator, fingerprinting and may include a polygraph test. Some of the areas considered in the background screening include prior convictions, traffic violations, drug use and credit problems, employment history, professional references and education verification (i.e. degree, license, or official transcripts). Foreign degrees require an evaluation of U.S. equivalency by an agency that is a member of the National Association of Credentials Services (N.A.C.E.S.).

Orange County Sheriff Human Resources screens all application materials for minimum qualifications. After screening, candidates who meet the minimum qualifications will be referred to the next step in the recruitment process. All candidates will be notified via email of their status in the process.

Structured Oral Interview | Oral Exam (Weighted 100%):
A panel of job knowledge experts will interview and evaluate each candidate's responses to a series of structured questions designed to elicit the candidate's qualifications for the job. This is a competitive process; therefore, candidate's responses to the structured questions should be thorough, detailed, and complete. Only the most successful candidates will be placed on the eligible list.
Based on the Department's needs, the selection procedures listed above may be modified. All candidates will be notified of any changes in the selection procedure.
ELIGIBLE LIST
After all procedures have been completed, the Sheriff Human Resources will establish an eligible list of qualified candidates.
