Preakness Healthcare Center, located in Wayne, NJ, is licensed as a 406-bed skilled nursing facility that is owned and operated by the Passaic County Board of County Commissioners. Recreation Therapist

Plans and implements plans employing professional therapeutic recreation theory concepts, principles, practices, and modalities to promote the recovery, adjustments, or to achieve the physical and mental rehabilitation of residents as well as to enhance the quality of their life on a continuous basis.
• Develops, organizes, and conducts treatment plans based on study of clinical records. Medical prescription, or physician referral.
• Creates an atmosphere which provides the opportunity for socialization and communication.
• Determines residents interests, attitudes, needs, and abilities through interview and observation.
• Prepares written documentation and reports in conformance with prescribed administrative, professional, and legally mandated practices.
• In accord with residents’ abilities, adapts games and equipment to promote healthy competition and exercise.
• Maintains attendance records for all program activities.
• Records progress notes of participants in various activities.
*Graduated from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor’s degree in Therapeutic Recreation or in Recreation with a therapeutic concentration, plus one (1) year of experience in conducting therapeutic recreation activities in a clinical, health care, residential, or community-based therapeutic recreation program or possession of a valid certificate as a therapeutic recreation specialist issued by the National Council for Therapeutic Recreation Certification.
This is a full-time position that includes every other weekend. Hours 8:30 am to 4:30 pm and 3 evening hours of 12 pm to 8 pm are required three times/month.

As of September 2010, in accordance with N.J.S.A 52:14-7, the “New Jersey First Act,” all new employees must reside in the State of New Jersey, unless exempted under the law. If you do not live in New Jersey, you have one year after you begin employment to relocate your residence to New Jersey or secure an exemption.
