Pool Manager - Seasonal
Rockbridge County Parks and Recreation Department is looking for motivated, energetic, team-players to fill seasonal positions at Lake Robertson and Blue Ridge Recreational Area for 10-40 hours per week. Successful candidates must be willing to work weekends, evenings, and holidays. Candidates must be 16 years of age or older; a background screen is required for applicants 18 years of age or older. A valid Virginia driver’s license is required. Lifeguard applicants must possess Lifeguard and First Aid/CPR certification.
Job Description
Performs general lifeguard duties through keen observation of all patron activities at the facility, teaching and enforcing water safety rules and regulations, maintaining a clean and sanitary environment. Work is performed under the direct supervision of the Parks and Recreation Director and/or Maintenance Supervisor.
Job Responsibilities
- Oversees daily activities of lifeguards; creates work schedules for lifeguard staff; escalates issues to Park Director.
- Uses lifeguard skills to observe activities and ensure safety of swimmers.
- Practices, teaches, and enforces facility rules and regulations.
- Cleans pool, decks, waterline tiles, common areas, and restrooms.
- Maintains pool pH levels and water cleanliness.
- Operates cash register, calculates time sheets, and prepares daily revenue reports.
- Instructs swimming lessons, as needed.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
General knowledge of lifeguard, safety, and aquatic operating practices and procedures, custodial and grounds keeping methods and practices; chemical components and water sanitation practices; ability to make arithmetic computations; ability to compute rates, ratios, and percentages; ability to understand and follow specific oral instructions; ability to read and write; advanced ability to swim, ability to teach the general public about water safety; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates and the general public.
Education & Experience
Minimal customer service, knowledge of parks and recreation and experience with the general public.
Physical Requirements
This work requires the regular exertion of up to 10 pounds of force, frequent exertion of up to 25 pounds of force and occasional exertion of up to 50 pounds of force; work regularly requires swimming, walking, speaking or hearing, using hands to finger, handle or feel, reaching with hands and arms and repetitive motions, frequently requires sitting, standing, climbing or balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching or crawling, tasting or smelling, pushing or pulling and lifting, work requires close vision, distance vision, ability to adjust focus, depth perception, color perception, and peripheral vision; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word and conveying detailed or important instructions to others accurately, loudly or quickly; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels and to receive detailed information through oral communications and/or to make fine distinctions in sound; work requires preparing and analyzing written or computer data, and observing general surroundings and activities; exposure to outdoor weather conditions.
