The Special Districts Department is recruiting for a Recreation SuperintendentThe Recreation Superintendent is responsible for the supervision, operation, and risk management of all recreation/leisure programming for a recreation and park district. Incumbents develop program policies and modifications; prepare an operating budget; determine priorities; and perform skilled work in a variety of sports, recreation and leisure programming activities. 

Special Districts Department works to promote the safety, health and enrichment of communities by providing essential municipal services along with diverse community-based programs in an efficient and sustainable manner. Special Districts covers a number of services areas, providing water and sanitation, television, parks and recreation, roads, streetlight, and other services, as well as conservation and land use assistance to unincorporated areas of the County.
 
 CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

Travel: Travel throughout the County is required. A valid California Class C Driver License and proof of automobile liability insurance must be provided at time of hire and maintained throughout employment.  

Background: A successful background check is required prior to assignment.  

Health and Physical Condition: Persons seeking appointment to this class must meet the health and physical condition standards deemed necessary and proper for performance of the duties established by the San Bernardino County Special Districts Department.

Certification: Incumbents must possess and maintain current CPR/AED certification throughout employment.

Certification: CPR/AED certification. A copy of the valid certification must be attached to your application. Note: Applicants currently enrolled in Certification courses may also be considered with proof of current enrollment. Proof of enrollment must be submitted with application to be considered.

Education: A Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in recreation/park administration, public administration or a related field; 

-AND-

Experience: Two (2) years experience within Park & Recreation acting in a supervisory capacity.

Substitution: An additional two (2) years of qualifying experience may substitute for the Bachelor degree requirement with possession of an Associate's degree; OR an additional four (4) years of qualifying experience may substitute for the Bachelor degree requirement.

Aquatics related certifications e.g. Certified Pool Operator, Water Safety Instructor, or Aquatics Facility Operation; and a Class B driver's license are highly desired.
There will be a competitive evaluation of qualifications based on the information provided in the Application, as well as the information provided as a response to the Supplemental Questionnaire.
