The Health and Human Services Agency is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Behavioral Health Program Coordinator. As a Behavioral Health Program Coordinator, you will be responsible for integrating County Behavioral Health Services with other human care services within an assigned region/service focus.  Behavioral Health Program Coordinators serve as technical administrative experts to the Behavioral Health Services executive team and have management, program development and contract monitoring responsibilities related to both substance abuse and mental health programs.

Interviews and Hiring Process

The timeline for this recruitment is outlined below. Please note that dates are approximate and are dependent upon the successful completion of each step of the process.
 
  • Job Offer and Background Process begins: Shortly after the interviews. Note: Current County employees may be excluded from additional background screening. 
 
  • Pre-employment Medical Screening: Approximately 3 days following successful background investigation results.
 
  • Anticipated Start Date: Start date will be based upon successful completion of medical screening or other mutually agreed upon date.

Minimum Qualifications
 
  1. Possession of a current license by the State of California as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, Marriage and Family Therapist, Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor, Mental Health Nursing Specialist, Psychologist, or Psychiatrist; AND,
  2. A master's degree from an accredited U.S. college or university, or a certified foreign studies equivalency in psychology, counseling, sociology, social work, public administration, public health or a closely related field; AND,
  3. At least five (5) years of professional experience that includes providing mental health services to transitional age youth, adults and older adults, or performing quality improvement duties in a mental health program. One (1) year of experience must have been in an administrative or management capacity.

Note: In #3 above, substance abuse treatment experience and experience with children, youth, and families is qualifying.

Condition of Employment
 

As part of the County of San Diego’s pre-employment process, prospective candidates will undergo a background check (including fingerprinting) and a pre-employment medical screening prior to beginning County employment. Additional types of background investigations may be conducted based on the job-related activities of the position. Current County employees may be excluded from this process.
 
Employees who work at County locations subject to the California Department of Public Health State Public Health Officer order are required to be fully vaccinated. In addition, booster-eligible employees must receive their booster by March 1, 2022, or within 15 days of becoming eligible for a booster if they are not eligible as of March 1, 2022. If there are CDPH date changes for Booster compliance, employees must come into compliance in accordance with that date.
 
If unvaccinated or not fully vaccinated (including booster), employees in some locations covered by the Public Health Officer Orders who remain in the workplace may be eligible for an accommodation.
 
 
Evaluation Process:
 
Qualified applicants will be placed on a six (6) month eligible list based on scores received during the evaluation of information contained in their employment applications.
