THIS POSITION IS ELIGIBLE FOR APPOINTMENT AT STEP 1, $74,006.40 ANNUALLY. County employees are subject to the County Promotion Rule for Step Placement.

The ideal candidate will provide courteous, high-quality service to members of the public by personally responding to requests or making appropriate referral.
 
HIRING TIMELINE & DATES:
  • Job Offer and Background Process begins in March 2024. Note: Current County employees may be excluded from additional background screening. 
  • Pre-employment Medical Screening: Approximately 3 days following successful background investigation results. 
  • Anticipate Start Date: Start date will be based upon successful completion of medical screening or other mutually agreed upon date.

Qualifying Experience 

  1. An associate's degree from an accredited U.S college or university, or a certified foreign studies equivalency in public relations, public administration, marketing, communication or a closely related field, AND three (3) years of paid experience developing, administering, and evaluating a comprehensive marketing or public relations program, involving the development of public awareness of major programs; OR,
  2. A bachelor's degree from an accredited U.S. college or university, or a certified foreign studies equivalency in public relations, public administration, marketing, communication or closely related field AND one (1) year of paid experience developing, administering, and evaluating a comprehensive marketing or public relations program involving the development of public awareness of major programs. 
Note: Additional years of experience as described above may substitute for the education requirement on a year-for-year basis; OR, completion of appropriate course work from an accredited college or university may substitute for the experience requirement on a year-for-year basis. Experience in speaking before large groups, civic organizations or public gatherings is highly desirable.

CONDITION OF EMPLOYMENT:
As part of the County of San Diego’s pre-employment process, prospective candidates will undergo a background check (including fingerprinting) and a pre-employment medical screening prior to beginning County employment. Current County employees may be excluded from this process.
 
EVALUATION PROCESS:
Qualified candidates will be placed on a six (6) month employment list based on scores received during the evaluation of information contained in their employment and supplemental applications. Please ensure all information is complete and accurate as the responses you provide on the supplemental application questionnaire will be reviewed using an automated evaluation system. If you are successful in the initial screening process, your application will be reviewed individually to confirm that the information you provided is accurate and qualifying.
