Job Description
Under general direction; provides information to the public through press conferences, news releases, and speaking engagements; represent the Appointing Authority on various boards and committees; writes and edits speeches and other oral presentations; supervises employees performing the public relations function. Performs other related duties as required.
Required Qualifications
Any combination of training and work experience which indicates possession of the skills, knowledge and abilities listed below.
Bachelor’s degree in public relations, journalism, or related discipline, plus two (2) years public relations experience.

The duties listed below are intended to depict tasks performed by
this classification.
Conducts press conferences and prepares news releases on behalf of the Appointing Authority; interprets and communicates official positions on matters of administration and County policy; speaks on behalf of Appointing Authority at various community group meetings; coordinates special projects (e.g., United Way, voters registration, etc.); provides information to the public through press releases and speaking engagements; resolves problems and complaints from public.
Supervises public relations staff personnel, i.e., trains new personnel, evaluates work performance, assigns work and monitors to ensure proper completion; adjust grievances; interviews job applicants and recommends hire; approves leave requests; recommends and/or takes commendation or disciplinary action as necessary.
Acts as representative of the Appointing Authority on various boards and committees; assists with development of policies and procedures; monitors implementation and evaluates policies and procedures, coordinates personnel requests and board appointments.
Researches, compiles, and analyzes data; writes and edits speeches and other oral presentations; prepares position papers and reports as required.
