ATHLETIC DIRECTOR

General Description: The athletic director oversees and coordinates operation of grades 7-12 athletic activities approved by the Board of Directors: participates in hiring and supervises athletic coaches; schedules facilities for games, events and awards ceremonies; arranges for officials, umpires and referees for home games;
Essential Job Functions:
The athletic director:

Assists the school principal to:
- establish coaching assignments,
- develop the annual athletic budget.
- Participates in screening and interviews of potential coaches, and recommends coaches for hire.

Supervises and evaluates all coaches to ensure district expectations and job description responsibilities are met annually and prior to beginning as a coach, including:
- required WIAA coaching certification,
- first aid/CPR/AED certification,
- completion of SafeSchools training.
- Supervises selection and purchasing of athletic equipment and materials, in accordance with the annual athletic budget and district guidelines.
- Represents Coupeville Middle & High School at all school athletic league and district meetings.
- Coordinates with other athletic directors to establish sports schedules for home and away games and ensures that schedules and facilities needed are published on the district’s online calendar and updated if the schedule changes.
- Coordinates with the dispatch secretary to arrange transportation to athletic events outside the district, including student athlete and coach transportation, and “rooter” buses and supervision for “rooter” buses.
- Arranges for officials, umpires, and/or referees needed for athletic events, and for game security if required.
- Supervises and attends athletic awards ceremonies, programs, and/or banquets.
- Works with the school principal and coaches regarding student eligibility under WIAA guidelines.
- Prepares reports as required by the principal or superintendent to document Title IX equity, participation,
- Personally supervises at least 80% of all athletic events, and ensures administrative supervision of all athletic events.
- Be a member of the Coupeville Middle & High School faculty.
- Have experience and above-average knowledge of all sports sponsored by the district.
- Have demonstrated ability to: coordinate schedules and events; supervise and evaluate job performance; generate reports regarding athletic programs; and coordinate schedules and events.
- Be able to communicate and work well with others and to make reasoned decisions.
- Show appropriate discretion concerning students, families, staff and confidential information.
- Have the ability to resolve issues that arise within the athletic program.
- Works in an office, typically seated in a chair, when meeting with staff, students and/or parents.
- Moves between office areas and outdoor playing fields in routine job functions.
- Stands for extended periods of time while supervising athletic events, both indoors and outdoors.
- Uses a desktop computer and mobile device(s) to maintain required notes and to access student information.
