Courtney Law: We are a small law firm founded in 1927 that endeavors to treat its clients as we would want to be treated. We strive to maintain the highest ethical standards, while advocating strongly for our clients within the boundaries of ethical and legal standards.
Our office is located next to the Courthouse in Somerset, PA. We are looking for a part-time legal assistant to be employed primarily in our estate planning and estate administration practice. The successful candidate will be working closely with our current estate administration legal assistant and with our attorney. Our objective will be to train the successful candidate to perform all aspects of support for estate planning and estate administration.
Responsibilities:
Work with attorney to conduct initial intake, process and gather detailed information for estate planning and estate administration.
Perform administrative duties, including maintenance of calendar, organization of documents, communication with clients, banks, other financial institutions, attorneys, realtors and other professionals and other sources of information relevant to estate administration, draft and proofread legal documents, perform data entry tasks to update case information in the legal database, assist with administrative tasks such as filing, photocopying, and organizing office supplies.
Creation of documents using word processing software, email, overnight mail and US Mail communications, maintenance of digital and paper files, ability to learn to operate software and assist in preparation of inheritance tax returns, maintain and prepare records regarding estate finances, prepare court filings, deeds and other legal documents. Perform bookkeeping and accounting functions.
Required Skills and Abilities:
High level of proficiency in word processing and typing, excellent organizational skills including maintaining a task list and organization of documents and files, excellent written and verbal communication skills by telephone and in person, and ability to perform checkbook accounting functions
Willingness and ability to learn to create legal documents from templates, utilize software to perform specific tasks such as maintaining a client contact database, performing bookkeeping functions, and creating digital document storage files and maintaining a digital calendar
Organize, prioritize and implement tasks with a strong attention to detail, work proactively, independently and as part of a team, consistently produce and deliver quality work products, manage multiple projects with competing deadlines in a busy legal environment, maintain a professional demeanor and a positive attitude, maintain confidentiality with respect to all client matters, and perform all tasks with a high standard of ethical behavior
Eligibility for Bonus Pay:
In addition to other pay and benefits, the successful candidate will be eligible to qualify for bonus pay.

Pay: $17.00 - $18.00 per hour
Expected hours: 16 – 24 per week
