What are the responsibilities and job description for the Bistro Server position at Courtyard by Marriott St. George?

The Courtyard by Marriott St. George is looking for an experienced and outgoing food server to work early morning shifts and evening shifts at our Bistro. Customer service is a must, prior restaurant experience is preferred but not required. Please see Bryan or Eric for any questions.

Job Summary:

Provide friendly, attentive, and responsive service and cuisine to create an exceptional dining experience for all of our guests. The primary objective is to create a personalized experience for our guests that will make them want to return and bring friends.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Complete opening and closing duties including setting up necessary supplies and tools, cleaning all equipment and areas, locking equipment doors, etc.
  • Set up, stock, and maintain work areas.
  • Take orders from customers, input orders into micros, and obtain payment and provide change.
  • Retrieve and deliver food and beverage orders to the guest table.
  • Preparing food, coffee and other beverages.
  • Communicate additional meal requirements, allergies, dietary needs, and special requests to the kitchen.
  • Process all orders and collect payment from customers.
  • Count bank at end of shift, complete designated cashier reports, resolve any discrepancies, drop off receipts, and secure bank.
  • Checking expiration dates on items to ensure freshness.
  • Follow all company and safety and security policies and procedures.
  • Report accidents, injuries, and unsafe work conditions to manager.
  • Complete safety training and certifications.
  • Ensure uniform and personal appearance is clean and professional.
  • Maintain confidentiality of proprietary information, and protect company assets.
  • Welcome and acknowledge all guests according to company standards.
  • Anticipate and address guests' service needs, assist individuals with disabilities, and thank guests with genuine appreciation.
  • Speak with others using clear and professional language.
  • Develop and maintain positive working relationships with others, and support team to reach common goals. Ensure adherence to quality expectations and standards.
  • Move, lift, carry, push, pull, and place objects weigh up to 25 pounds without assistance.
  • Stand, sit, or walk for an extended time period.
  • Perform any other reasonable job duties as requested.

Additional Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Prepare ingredients for cooking, including portioning, chopping, and storing food.
  • Prepare and cook food according to recipes, quality standards, presentation standards, and food preparation checklist.
  • Operate a variety of kitchen equipment.
  • Prepare excellent quality food for the Bistro and catered events, while understanding food costs and portion control.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Must be 21 or older due to liquor laws
  • Must be willing to work a varied shift that includes weekends, holidays, and special events
  • Must be able to remain calm under pressure while working with speed and accuracy
  • Must be able to read, write and verbally communicate in the English language
  • Must have good communication & organizational skills
  • Must have a valid Food Handler’s Card or be able to obtain one
  • Must have a high level of honesty and integrity
  • Must be able to work quickly & efficiently and take direction
  • Must have a knowledge of and adhere to all alcohol related laws
  • Must have a basic knowledge of dining room service procedures and kitchen functions.
  • Must have a basic knowledge of Health Code standards.
  • Must have reliable transportation.
  • Must possess basic math skills and have the ability to handle money and operate a POS system
