ROOM FOR CHANGE Project Coordinator
This is a part-time position. Proposed Salary $18- 20 per hour, based on experience.

DAYS AND HOURS OF OPERATION:
The Couve Collective is currently open Tuesday and Wednesday 2pm to 6pm and Thursday – Saturday, 2pm to 9pm. The schedule of work will vary according to staffing and outreach needs. This person will work for approximately 20 hours a week on a regular basis. Staff meetings are currently held Tuesday 3:30 pm-4:30 pm. All staff are expected to attend in-person.
JOB SUMMARY:
The Project Coordinator (Coordinator) supports the Recovery Café mission of serving those individuals who have been traumatized by homelessness, addictions, and/or mental health challenges in a manner consistent with the philosophy and policies of the Recovery Café Network. The Coordinator will work to implement the Room for Change initiative, geared at working with local unhoused individuals to improve their living situation.
The Coordinator holds to Café guidelines to give and forgive, show respect, encourage growth, practice compassion and Café policies. As well as adheres to Couve Collectives values of consistent community contribution, generosity of spirit, intentional growth, and promoting a safe space.
The Coordinator works as part of the entire Café team and reports to the Operations Director. If the candidate is in recovery from alcohol and/or other substances, they must have at least three years sobriety and preferably have an active support network.
SCOPE OF WORK:
In this role, the coordinator is responsible for outreach and case management with individuals living unhoused in the downtown area. This position will engage individuals at their camps in order to establish connection and build trust. The goal of the outreach is to determine willingness for change as indicated by desire to maintain a clean and safe camp, as well as engage in services that will move them towards stable housing, including potentially addressing substance abuse issues. Coordinator will also meet with people regularly in-office for case management services, primarily connecting them with appropriate agencies and supporting them in follow-up. This may include occasional transportation to and from, and participation in, necessary appointments in the Vancouver-area. This position will also be in charge of maintaining outreach supplies and informing leadership of restocking needs. In addition, the Coordinator will be asked to provide input on the development of the Room for Change program and will be the primary person responsible for the implementation of the initiative in the local neighborhood. As much as possible, this position will also work with the Outreach Director towards building relationships and community with businesses and residents in the Downtown area.
Additional responsibilities in this role include, but are not limited to, the following:
Familiarize and interact with the unhoused encampment within walking distance of the cafe.
Work to build a member referral program for the Café as well as Room for Change outreach program.
Embrace and promote an environment of radical hospitality in the context of loving accountability.
Maintain appropriate boundaries in all interactions as an employee.
Support Café members, patrons, community volunteers and staff through listening and encouragement.
Input into and maintenance of data tracking system (Agency) and other systems.
Regular cleaning and maintenance of the Outreach Flex Space and outreach equipment/supplies.
Staff support and floor coverage for special events held at the Café
Ensure preparation and set-up of outreach materials, as needed.
Attend Café staff meetings and schedule time with your supervisor, as needed.
Advocate for Members and participants of Room for Change.
EDUCATION, WORK AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS:
Education:
College courses or certification training with focus on social services, counseling, psychology, mental health, recovery issues and/or Recovery Coach training preferred. Relevant work and life experience may substitute.
Work Experience:
2-5 years progressively responsible work experience in a position utilizing skills relevant to this position.
Skills and Desirable Qualifications:
Valid Driver's License, ideally with a working vehicle.
Knowledge of the local public transportation system.
Must have strong interpersonal communications skills.
Ability to serve as a motivator, conflict resolver, and “de-escalator.”
Ability to work amicably on a diverse staff team with flexibility, creativity and enthusiasm.
Proficiency in basic computer skills in order to stay organized, communicate effectively via email (Outlook), and input and track data.
Strong organizational skills.
Ability to lift 30 to 50 lbs.
Understanding of the recovery journey.
Ability to embody principles of recovery in daily interactions.
Strong desire to support men and women who are motivated to obtain stable housing.
If in recovery for alcohol or substance use, a person must have a minimum of 2 years of continuous sobriety time.
