About the role
Located at the Huntsville, AL power plant and reporting to the Shift Supervisor - the Assistant Control Room Operator will work in collaboration with our facility control room to operate and inspect various power plant systems safely and efficiently to ensure the operational effectiveness of Covanta's industrial disposal process.
Position Responsibilities:- Operate and inspect power plant systems in accordance with safety operating procedures, systems include, but are not exclusively limited to boilers, air pollution control systems, ash systems, and heavy industrial equipment.
- Monitor and inspect various boiler plant auxiliary equipment, including pumps, motors, fans, dampers, air compressors, valves, mixers, conveyors, turbine generators and electrical devices.
- Read and interpret data from meters, gauges, and industrial measuring tools to identify trends and/or potential equipment disruptions that impact facility operations.
- Monitor air pollution control equipment.
- Perform various types of material sampling, chemistry testing, and treatment of water, as required.
- Safely operate heavy industrial mobile equipment, such as: cranes, skid steers, loaders, and forklifts
- Responsible for maintaining correct levels of refuse-fuel in operations equipment, and ensure appropriate refuse mix in designated pits and areas of operations.
- Complete Auxiliary Operator Full lessons and Advanced Auxiliary Operator lessons, GPILearn and Site Specific or formal equivalent technical training
- Record 100 hours of side-by-side training with CRO operating the plant from the DCS within 6 months.
- Additional duties as assigned to ensure safe and efficient facility operations.
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- A minimum of 2-3 years' experience operating boilers, water treatment
- A minimum of 2-3 years' experience operating heavy equipment - front end loader, crane, etc.
- Must have the ability to work a rotating shift schedule
- Walk, stand, sit, climb and be able to handle temperature changes including extreme heat
- Be able to lift/carry 50lbs
- Qualify to wear a full face respirator
- 5 shifts on, 2 shifts off, 2 shifts on, 5 shifts off, rotating 12-hour days/nights.
