About the role
POSITION SUMMARY
The ERG Technician position is responsible for the manual operation of hand tools, inventory scanning equipment, general housekeeping, and forklift operation at Covanta/Circon Energy Resource Group (ERG) facilities. Equipment used may include mechanic's tools, shovels, brooms, landscaping equipment, hand-held scanners, barcode readers, pallet jacks, forklifts, pressure washers and generators. The ERG Technician may be required to perform other manual labor or technical tasks as required for successful completion of the mission.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
Primary duties include, but are not limited to the following:
- Ensures Health and Safety is the number one goal by following policies, procedures and acting in a safe manner at all times.
- Uses Enviroware to enter, track, audit, inspect, inventory and ship all material received by ERG Birmingham.
- Locates items on "Hold" in the system and evaluates reason for the "Hold" status; corrects and resolves identified issues. Keeps "Ghost" items to a minimum.
- Verifies that all containers and inventory pieces are properly labeled in accordance with HAZCOM requirements, GHS standards and Enviroware requirements and that Circon/Covnta bar code tracking labels are affixed.
- Performs basic maintenance and housekeeping tasks using a variety of hand tools, but also operates electrically powered hand tools and spill response.
- Works in potentially hazardous atmospheres and locations where exposure to hazardous substances may be encountered to include petroleum hydrocarbons, benzene, and hydrogen sulfide.
- Completes bi-monthly inventory counts using hand-held scanners and code readers.
- Safely and proficiently operates a forklift with attachments to include forks, drum grabbers, bale clamps, and rotators.
- Works with EH&S, HR, and Training Departments to ensure that their training, and drug screens are current.
- Completes required paperwork to include timecards, Safe Work Permits, Equipment Inspection Forms, JSA's and Safety Audits. Identifies jobsite hazards and reports them to plant management and Velocity EHS.
- Is available for "On Call" duty when emergencies or special situations arise.
- Perform other duties and tasks as assigned by Circon management as required by the needs of the business.
Shift:
Typically Monday to Friday day shift (7:00am to 4:00pm) with occasional Saturdays.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- High school diploma or equivalency preferred - Covanta offers GED Works - a fully funded program for employees to achieve their GED.
- Minimum 1 year waste handling experience in an industrial setting.
- Forklift experience
- Clean driving record and valid state issued Driver's License.
- Knowledge of Safe Work practices and RCRA a plus.
- Ability to pass background checks, drug & alcohol screens, Hazwoper 40-Hour Training and Confined Space Entry training.
- Ability to work at elevations and inside confined spaces for extended periods of time.
- Demonstrated leadership ability with strong attention to detail.
- Has the ability to work overtime and occasional weekends, in excess of 8 hours per day.
- Travel may be required in support of other ERG operations.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Ability to perform strenuous physical activity.
- Requires standing and lifting up to fifty pounds. Position may also include carrying, walking, grasping, reaching, and crawling.
- Ability to wear & use PPE and respiratory protection equipment to include level B and C
- Ability to work in both hot (>90 F and cold <32 F) environments for extended periods of time.
- Fit for duty to include being clean shaven when required.
