Covanta is looking for an experienced Shift Supervisor (part-time position, not a full time position) for our facility located in Spring Hill, FL. This position will primarily work day-shift (M-F), with occasional coverage on weekend, night, and holiday shifts as needed to support plant operations. The successful candidate is also expected to take phone calls during off-hours as needed to assist in supporting plant operations.
The Shift Supervisor is responsible, under the direction of the Operations Manager, for coordination and direction of plant personnel to effectively and efficiently meet daily operational and outage needs. This includes ensuring the facility's readiness to meet emergency or unusual circumstances in a safe and productive manner.
This position reports to the facility Operations Manager.
The Pasco County Solid Waste Resource Recovery Facility processes up to 1,050 tons of solid waste per day, generating 31.2 gross megawatts of renewable energy. We are also a recipient of the U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration's (OSHA) Voluntary Protection Program (VPP) Star award.
Responsibilities:
- Assist the Operations Manager with overseeing all areas of plant operations and carrying out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with Covanta's policies and applicable laws.
- Coordinating operational and maintenance tasks associated with plant and boiler outages.
- Conducting personal and group technical training as required.
- Oversight and updating of operator logs, SOP's, P&ID's, training programs, and implementing new processes for data collection and tracking utilizing the new technologies available.
- Coordinate with the Maintenance Department to ensure repairs are scheduled appropriately and ensures that equipment is prepared for repairs in accordance with the maintenance plan.
- Act as a project manager to ensure the successful execution of various small capital and long-term maintenance tasks
- Participating in daily / monthly meetings with the Shift Supervisors and facility management staff.
- Coordinating day to day activities of the operations employees.
- Responsible for the reliable operation of the Water Treatment Plant including pre-treatment, circulating water system, boiler water system and waste water systems.
- Manage the facility labor support contractors to ensure cleanliness of the facility is maintained.
- During emergency or unusual situations, shall direct or if necessary, personally perform the required operations or corrective actions as well as coordinating the activities of all personnel involved.
- Perform other duties as directed by the Operations Manager/Plant Management.
Position Requirements:
*High school diploma or general education degree (GED) is required.
*Broad background in plant operations, including at least 3 years' experience in power or resource recovery plant operations required.
*Hands-on and/or supervisory experience working with high pressure boilers and electric generation equipment required.
*ASME QRO Site Specific Certification required.
*Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general administrative periodicals, technical procedures and regulations.
*Ability to write reports and correspondence as well as effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers and subordinates.
*Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret graphs.
*Experience with Microsoft office applications, to include Word, Excel and PowerPoint
*Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
*Ability to take appropriate safe action on his/her own initiative to prevent equipment damage or injury to personnel during emergencies or unusual situations.
Physical Demands:
*Frequently exposed to high temperatures and outside weather conditions.
*Working near moving machinery as well as noisy and dusty environments; must be able to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE) to include a negative pressure respirator in accordance with OSHA Regulation 29 CFR 1910.134.
*Climbing ladders and structures; must be able to tolerate heights.
*Frequently required to stand, sit, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl and reach.
*Lifting up to 50 pounds. Must be able to work on other manual labor to including pushing, pulling, sweeping and shoveling.
*Specific vision ability required by this job included close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus
