General Overview:
We are seeking a talented and passionate Music Director to join our church family. As the Music Director, you will be responsible for coordinating, planning, and directing the overall music ministry for both the traditional and contemporary services, and at other events as requested. This is a key role that requires strong communication skills, the ability to mentor and educate musicians, and an understanding of music theory and performance. The estimated weekly time commitment for this position is 13 hours/week (5 hours on Sunday mornings, 2 weekly rehearsals, time for music study and preparation, and attendance at Worship Committee meetings as needed).
Duties:
- Lead and direct all aspects of the Chancel Choir and Contemporary Praise Team, including rehearsals, performances, and special events
- Select appropriate musical pieces for performances based on the ensembles' skill level and in conjunction with liturgical and organizational events
- Coordinate the recruiting and training of Chancel Choir and Praise Team musicians
- Conduct rehearsals, providing guidance and feedback to musicians to improve their technical skills and musicality
- Coordinate with administrative staff to manage scheduling, budgeting, and logistics related to music program activities
- Serve as a mentor and educator for musicians, fostering their growth and development
Requirements:
- Proven experience as a Music Director in a church setting or similar role
- Strong leadership skills with the ability to inspire and motivate musicians
- Excellent communication skills to effectively convey musical concepts and ideas
- Ability to work collaboratively with other staff members
- Strong organizational skills to manage multiple tasks and deadlines effectively
- Degree in Music or a related field (preferred)
- The Music Director is expected to be a practicing Christian. Active membership at Covenant Evangelical Presbyterian Church in Lake Jackson is preferred.
