Summary:
The Endoscopy Registered Nurse is accountable for the quality of nursing care rendered to patients. The RN assumes responsibility for assessing, planning, implementing, directing, supervising and evaluating nursing care of patients in the gastroenterology setting. The RN assists physicians with procedures. The Endoscopy RN is responsible and accountable for assisting the patient to move as rapidly, uneventfully, safely, and effectively as possible through their procedure.
The Endoscopy RN demonstrates excellent customer service performance in their attitude and actions are at all times consistent with the standards contained in the Vision, Mission and Values of Covenant HealthCare and the commitment to Extraordinary Care for Every Generation.
Responsibilities:
Completes admission assessment
Administers and evaluates pharmacological and other therapeutic treatment regimens
Delivers IV conscious sedation following hospital protocol
Assists the physician during diagnostic and therapeutic procedures to promote optimal patient outcomes by team collaboration
Responds to emergency situations to promote optimal patient outcomes by recognizing changes in the patient’s health status
Performs diagnostic studies as ordered by a physician
Documents patient data in the EMR to ensure continuity of patient care
Provide health education and procedural teaching to patients and significant others
Other duties as assigned
Other information:
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
Nursing Degree (ADN, Diploma, BSN) from an accredited school of nursing.
License to practice professional nursing (RN) in the State of Michigan.
BLS Required
Previous acute care and unit specific experience preferred, but not required.
SGNA preferred.
KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES
Excellent computer skills
Demonstrates interpersonal skills in dealing with patients, families, and co-workers.
Demonstrates ability to remain calm during high volume and crisis situations.
Demonstrates the ability to problem-solve and prioritize unit needs independently, efficiently, and effectively.
Ability to interpret monitor readings and recognizes changes and acts according to promote patient safety.
