Kanis Endoscopy Center, a Covenant Physician Partner, located in Little Rock, AR is hiring a PRN Medical Assistant.
Under the direction of the Center Manager, the Physician and RN, the Medical Assistant (MA), assists with Endoscopy procedures and patient care. Additionally, the MA is responsible for cleaning and processing of scopes, accessories and instruments if required. We are looking for someone with a great attitude and solid prior experience in both Medical Assisting. The ideal candidate will be detail oriented, strong at multi-tasking and dedicated to high quality patient care.
Essential Duties And Responsibilities
- Follows principles of aseptic technique and prescribed operating/procedure room procedures
- Cleans and disinfects flexible endoscopes and accessories according to center’s policies and procedures and manufacturer’s guidelines and verifies that all essential equipment is functioning properly each day if assigned to instrument room.
- Maintains AERs and autoclaves per center policies and manufacturer’s guidelines and documents in the appropriate records. Monitors cleaning solution after each use for efficacy and records results appropriately when assigned to the instrument room.
- Assists in all rescue and or resuscitative efforts as deemed necessary by attending physician, anesthesia provider and/or Center Manager.
- Aids in explaining the procedure to patients and assists in psychologically preparing patients for procedures, communicating effectively with patients, families, visitors and healthcare professionals.
- Assist with Endoscopy procedures as directed by physician and RN and within MA scope of practice, including patient positioning and obtaining biopsy/polypectomy specimens.
- Handles any specimens obtained during procedure, properly labeling, packaging and preparing for shipment.
- Accesses patient health information in the clinical EHR and accurately enters it into the Center’s EHR
- Assist patients in all areas of care and mobility.
- Obtains and records vital signs.
- Administers oral meds as prescribed by the physician (specific to state guidelines)
- Obtain urine HCG’s and stool samples per physician’s order, Additional sample types may be added specific to the center specialty.
- Performs blood glucose testing per physician’s order.
- Ensures accurate documentation of care in the medical record.
- Maintains a clean work environment by cleaning reusable equipment and procedure rooms per center’s policies and procedures.
- Restocks supplies in assigned areas and the supply room.
- Ensures that all instruments and supplies are available as needed in her assigned department.
- Engages in various clerical and recordkeeping duties as needed.
- Assists with the transport and discharge of patients when needed.
- Performs other duties as requested or assigned.
About the Candidate
- High school education or equivalent, Medical Assistant.
- Minimum of 1 year prior experience as a Medical Assistant preferred;
- Current CMA certification strongly preferred.
- Previous experience in a customer service or clinical setting.
- Must be competent in the use of basic office equipment including computer, printer, telephone and fax.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively and remain poised and professional when interacting with potentially hostile patients and family members.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively and work collaboratively with physicians and all medical professionals.
- Current certification in BLS.
