This position entails reviewing, analyzing and processing medical professional liability accounts to support the overall initiatives of the underwriting department in order to achieve production and profitability goals.
The Underwriting Associate supports underwriting function through collaboration, and communication. Collaboration is demonstrated through consistent interactions with underwriters, management and business development leaders in regard to assigned book of business. Effective communication is exhibited through the fostering of key relationships to our internal and external customers.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Manages assigned territory within company guidelines and compliance while meeting company financial objectives.
- Approves applications, renewals, and endorsements within authority level. Determines appropriate rating plan and accurately calculates premiums for presented risks within authority level.
- Reviews applications, correspondence, and reports to compile and summarize pertinent data into underwriting documents.
- Develops and fosters relationships with agent broker partners through effective and efficient communication.
- Reviews and issues policies and endorsements within authority level.
- Supports and engages with assigned underwriters/management in matters that are beyond authority.
Education, Requirements & Competencies
- Bachelor's degree (B. A.) from four-year college or university preferred; or one to two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Property and Casualty Producers license or pursuit thereof required. Willing to complete requirements of the RPLU or CPCU designation.
- Ability to learn the use of new software applications as required. Employee will be required to become proficient in the use and understanding of the Company's core underwriting operating system.
- Ability to read and comprehend instructions, correspondence, and memos. Ability to write professional correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.
