The Manager, Transportation is responsible for the execution and implementation of the domestic transportation strategy in support of the Covetrus’s strategic objectives. This role executes on strategic improvements of transportation related projects that drive operational efficiencies and optimizes the customer delivery experience while maximizing transportation-related cost savings. It also drives logistics excellence and standardization of best practices across all business units within the domestic supply chain. Manages freight spend and network optimization in the following modes: courier, parcel, USPS Mail and LTL.
- Provide overall leadership within the transportation team to achieve the completion of transportation strategic projects; metric reporting and tactical support needs
- Manage, analyze and report on domestic outbound transportation activities and costs financial performance vs. budget for the Covetrus In-Clinic Distribution division
- Utilize carrier performance reports to identify service trends negatively impacting the customer experience. Implement changes where necessary
- Utilize weekly parcel spend reports to drive cost down
- Implement strategic projects within In-Clinic Distribution division including but not limited to network design, adhoc projects, carrier optimization, and WMS SCI Reporting
- Develop, manage and maintain transportation budget for In-Clinic Distribution division
- Facilitate freight pay audit resolution; GL Coding exception and weekly pay fund request for In-Clinic Distribution division
- Support carrier procurement sourcing activities by supporting RFP preparations and analyzing carrier rate proposals within courier, parcel, USPS Mail and LTL
- Supports external and internal clients with detailed costing analysis surrounding company provided solutions Supports the day-to-day analytical requests of both internal and external clients.
- Maintain a centralized carrier rate agreement governance process across all modes and carriers within network.
- Develop, maintain and update carrier route guides as needed
- Partners with Operations Leadership Team to compare and analyze individual Distribution Center performance
- Actively participate and contribute to sales and/or operations meetings to align customer needs with transportation services
- Support DC fulfillment contingency planning with customer line movement when necessary
- Serve as carrier relationship owner at the tactical level for all small parcel, courier & LTL carrier relationships
- Lead Peak Season Capacity planning and communication with internal and external stakeholders. Communicate business needs to external carrier partners. Communicate capacity plans to internal business partners
- Serve as an escalation point for domestic transportation issues with internal cross-functional partners; including but not limited to sales, operations and regulatory departments
- Supervise, manage, and mentor at two direct reports. Provide overall leadership within transportation team to achieve the completion of transportation strategic projects; metric reporting and tactical support needs. Leads and mentors others in advance thought and approach to complex logistical concepts.
- Manage the carrier and transportation scorecards and KPIs publishing process.
Education
- Bachelor’s degree required, with preference for a major in Business, Supply Chain or Logistics (or equivalent combination of education and experience).
Work Experience
- 5-7 years of experience in a domestic transportation operations related role
- Demonstrated experience managing carrier relationships
- Familiarity with carrier operations within the following modes: small parcel, courier, LTL

- Ability to determine and communicate monetary ramifications of business decisions and actions.
- Ability to juggle multiple projects and prioritize and organize effectively
- Ability to develop strong internal and external relationships at all levels.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Ability to accurately analyze and present data in a highly proficient, concise manner using Excel such as Pivot Tables, Vlookup, If Statements.
Travel
- Not generally required, < 10%
